Cowboys at Niners, January 3, 1971. Cowboys 17, Niners 10.

Would that make SF-Dallas the oldest playoff rivalry of the divisional era? (Especially since they had an encore the following year?)

It was also the last game played at Kezar Stadium, as the Niners moved into Candlestick Park for the 1971 season.

Unlike a lot of former pro stadiums, (in any sport), Kezar still stands, and is still used, for high school football.

Hail Kezar!

ETA: So, according to this website, DAL-SF is tied at 9 total playoff meetings (DAL 5, SF 4) with Rams-DAL (Rams 5-4) and SF-GB (SF 5-4).

In conference championships meetings, DAL-SF is tops at 6 all time (DAL 4-2). Next closest pairings all have 3 total meetings.

Random note I just stumbled upon: in the playoffs the year before (for the 69-70 season), the Cowboys lost to the Browns in the conference championship.

Dallas lost at home to Cleveland 38-14 and then lost to the LA Rams 31-0 in the their place game in the Orange Bowl on Jan 3, 1970 while the Vikings beat the Browns to go to the Super Bowl. That was the last "third place" game ever played.

if we're talking about 1970's playoff rivalries...

I would have Raiders-Steelers at the top.

they didn't meet for the first time in the postseason until 1972, but then they played 5 years-in-a-row

3 times in the AFC championship game in 74, 75, and 76...where the winner went on to win the Super Bowl.

and of course there was the immaculate reception game

If you ever get a chance to see a replay of a Raiders-Steelers
Game from that era the football was rough. Most plays would have had roughing the passer or late hit penalties under todays rules.

The Oilers and Steelers played a game in the dome in the late seventies that included both Terry Bradshaw and his backup getting hurt and a DB named Tony Dungey had to take some snaps at QB.

Earl and Donnie Shell had some epic collisions. Those games were awesome.

Both the MNF and late season games from 1978 Oilers vs Steelers are on you tube. So many hard hits and so
Much respect between these teams for each other. Such a great rivalry.
