Unless we are still trying to make a run at some more FAs, I don't think we even need to restructure him at all. We have enough to sign our draftees and we also have Robert Woods to create some more room if we need to. Now we are actually kind of in a spot where we are going to have some tough cut decisions because we have too MUCH depth.
You're correct the Texans don't need to restructure his deal, my guess is they will be, and it will be a 3 year deal with a way for the Texans to get out of it with a minimal cap hit after year 2.
His guaranteed money is done after 2024, this is effectively a one year deal. The added benefit to when Caserio made this deal is Buffalo got hammered by the Diggs contract on dead money so Diggs is essentially playing 2024 as a contract year because there's no way he plays 2025 with only a small amount guaranteed for injury. If it doesn't work out, Texans release him, both parties walk away. If it does work out they see about an extension or trade him to a team who will work out an extension. The more details I read about this trade the more I like it.
The PFF guys likened this trade to when Houston traded Osweiller and a second round pick to Cleveland just to get him out of the building. Caserio is making up for the Hopkins trade and the Osweiller one with this one move. With all he's doing I think McNair needs to get Caserio an extension because a lot of what he's been doing for years is really paying dividends right now.
