Howard plus a higher round rookie and another vet would make me feel solid about the secondary

That would be awesome. With the depth of the corner class this year we could get a solid starter level player in the 2nd or 3rd round to finish a 3 man rotation.

How does it work with him having so much remaining on his contract? Dolphins eat most of it?

If that's how it works, it seems you could get him for a great price.

They cut him, so they only owe him whatever portion of his signing bonus and/or guaranteed money was deferred. His new contract won't be influenced by any money he received from the previous one outside of setting the market price.

Need to sign him for no more than 3 years to make sure it's off the books when CJ and Will's new contract or 5th year option hit. Also no more than 3 because he's old.

McClain is a washed up hack.

He also said he doesn't think Caserio will sign a big name free agent because that's not his MO. He hasn't done it yet so why would he now.

That's stupid because for one when he got here there was no cap space and then the team sucked ass so why would he.

McClain just needs to go away and stay off the airwaves.
mAgnoliAg

He seriously said that? Like yeah there's no difference between this team and the team of the past few years.

McClain is out of touch at this point. The Texans under Caserio are not afraid to trade up in the draft to get who they need or sign guys like SIngletary and Schultz. Now that we are division champs things have changed.

I trust Caserio to sign big names if they make this team better. Barkley and X Howard would be relatively inexpensive upgrades. Evans at this right price would be a great addition as would a DT like Jones or Justin M. If he can't get these guys at the right price then there is the draft focus.

I think Ainias Smith could be a tricky good draft pick to play the Deebo role and supplement the short pass and running game. If they don't land Evans there are WRs in the draft that could work with a longer adjustment period.

I assume McLain wants X Howard since he played at Baylor.

It's funny, but after him being so adamant that they are going to take a d-lineman and saying that he would have them take one in every version of his mock draft, I went back and looked at his mock draft from last year to see if he was even close.

This was his statement right before the draft:

So, I wonder if the Texans just use him for misinformation at this point?

It's almost like McClain wrote up his tweet about his beloved Titans and switched the name to Houston at the very end.

I remember when old Wheezy McClain was relevant. Seems he fell out of favor with the insiders. I could be wrong on that but, whereas when Kubes was coach he had gold nuggets all the time, he's had no scoop since Caserio started running the office.

I'm for it. Seems like Aaron Wilson is a much better reporter for this time and place.

I once won a $50 gift certificate by calling into 610 and wining a John McClain impersonation contest.

That's what I did, in fact, I posted there a long time ago, but who knows where. I had whoever the host was ask me a question about the Texans and then launched into a long description of my next film, which involved Cockroach from the Cosby Show and someone else, along with John taking a road trip and that he had his first love scene in a movie (with Kathy Bates).

the free agent discussion on 610 has been interesting the last week

the midday guys want Evans and Saquon

the morning guys want neither

I side with the midday -- try for both of them on 3 -year deals

I doubt Evans will be available. In light of them expanding the salary cap by 10 million or so, I doubt a lot of guys are going to be available who we thought might be earlier.

I think RB might be the only position on offense they drop a little cash on. Barkley or Jacobs for 2 or 3 years at 10-ish a year makes sense. Outside of Evans, none of the WR really improve you much.

Again, a lot of the early wishlist will get tagged (Madubuike, Wilkins, Allen, Burns, etc.). Greenard might be the best DE who doesn't get tagged, and if so, he is worth re-signing as long as he isn't looking for the break-the-bank money (which someone might just give him). I want Christian Wilkins, but I think dumping Xavien Howard was a play to keep him. Chris Jones doesn't seem like a Caserio signing.

Realistically, I think this could be a weird/disappointing offseason in that we have money to spend but there aren't many players available who are worth spending big money on. I bet you have a lot of Caserio-like signing of solid veterans on one-or-two year deals as usual. Maybe they splurge on a Patrick Queen or Xavien Howard. Maybe.

The discussion I heard while out to luinch was interesting as well.

With this draft being light at TE it starting to look like teams will fill those needs via FA and with that class also being weak it's starting to look like Schultz may be in pretty high demand.

So as to not get into a bidding war should the Texans franchise tag him?

Interesting strategy but could be pretty useful.

Saw a report that Madubuike will be tagged if the Ravens cannot workout a long term contract.

They're probably talking to him about a two or three year deal. If they can't work something out, then maybe franchising him wouldn't be the worst thing.

Not crazy about Schultz, but there really aren't many options and he has a chemistry with CJ.

I don't think franchising Schultz would be a bad move, it would be about $12.7MM which is probably not far off from what he would get as AAV on the open market. There also isn't really anyone else I see that we should consider tagging, so if we can't agree on a multi-year deal I wouldn't mind that at all.

That sucks for him. He's earned a big contract. One down year or an injury on a tag year kills his value.

Yep. Brevin came on at the end of last year, so maybe a one-year security blanket is a good idea and hope that Brevin continues to evolve into a TE1.

I do think we need to draft a TE early on in the draft if it makes sense.

Unfortunately this isn't a good TE draft outside of Brock Bowers, who isn't really a true TE. I would look to grab someone in the later rounds that has some kind of upside, mid-rounds can be better served at deeper positions like WR and CB in this draft.

I'd hold on to Schultz for dear life. He was the safety valve for Stroud all year, especially when he was getting comfortable early on. Had a couple of bad drops in big games late, but you can't discount the importance of a reliable pass catching TE

No way he falls that far.

He could be a late 1st rounder but I don't think he falls anywhere near the 3rd.

Yeah, him or the Penn State TE could probably be had in the 4th or 5th round, but I wouldn't take them early on in the draft.
