Correct. Demeco was the overwhelming choice for Defensive ROY with 36 votes. Mark Anderson was 2nd with 5 votes and Mario cranked out a big 1 vote.Texan_Aggie said:Caserly. That was the Mario Williams draft, if I remember correctly.LB12Diamond said:

I believe Mario, DeMeco and Daniels all made the pro-bowl. Nice parting gift by Caserly. Then we entered the Rick Smith years...The Porkchop Express said:Correct. Demeco had 126 tackles, 3.5 sacks and an INT in his rookie year.
I'm going to assume that if Will Anderson wins D-ROY, it will be the first time that a former D-ROY has coached a D-ROY in his rookie season as a coach
That '06 draft was supposed to be the greatest of all time and most of the first round turned out meh-to-good.Of the top 11 picks, there was only 1 All-Pro season combined, that by Mario one year. Based on Pro Bowls, the best player in the first round that year was Nick Mangold , the center for the Jets.
DeMeco was the first pick of the 2nd round. The Texans took Charles Spencer, and his fantastic 2 games in the third pick, as well as Eric Winston, then the very solid Owen Daniels after that. A name that made me laugh at #170 - Wali Lundy.

Fortunately we got CJ before BoB could get a chance to screw him up.
I remember those fervent days of wondering who weere going to take #1, Vince or Reggie? The night before the draft I was covering a baseballl game or something and Sam Khan yelled out, "Holy **** they're taking Mario Williams?"tjack16 said:
Going back to the Mario draft… I actually think Reggie Bush was ahead of his time. Back in 06, not a lot of teams used running backs in the passing game like they do today. If he came out in the 2024 draft he would basically be McCaffrey2.0 and be an all pro most years
Bill O’Brien spent eight total years working for either Bill Belichick (2007-2011, 2023) or Nick Saban (2021-2022) and didn’t win a Super Bowl or a National Championship.

Valid point. One of my favorite backs and offenses was Bill Walsh with the 49ers and the way he used Roger Craig. Craig could line up behind FB Tom Rathman one play and go for 6 yards then for 15 on a swing pass the next play. His receiving yards were always pretty close to his rushing yards.tjack16 said:

Totally agree. He finally got to the Saints who had an ahead-of-their-time offensive scheme, but unfortunately murder wasn't yet penalized:tjack16 said:

Reading an article on the Ringer this morning about coaching hires and these quotes from Mike Tomlin made me simultaneously thankful for Demeco and angry and Jimbo:
"I love to hear coaches resist the responsibility of coaching," Tomlin said. "They'll talk negatively about a dude that can't learn and blah, blah. Man, if everybody could learn, we'd need less coaches, right? If the group didn't need management, then we wouldn't make as much."
"I love reading draft evals and somebody's talking about anything other than pedigree, talking about how poor somebody's hand usage is. Well, that's coaching. I don't run away from coaching. I run to coaching. It all is in line with not seeking comfort, because when you're a coach that's talking about, 'Somebody can't learn,' you're seeking comfort because your teaching is struggling."
That's the good stuff. When a coach blames players for execution, it's a red flag.
Not yet: The #Ravens are not expected to activate star TE Mark Andrews from Injured Reserve to play against the #Texans, as he’s not quite ready to return from a significant ankle injury.

Perhaps next week, as a potential AFC Championship Game appearance was always the goal. pic.twitter.com/PRqnn2eIYz

I think I might be more scared of Baltimore now that I realize Andrews hasn't played much this year. His last touchdown catch was in October.

Oh 100% agree, it's just they haven't fallen off as much as they would have in previous years. Helps they finally have a decent WR as wellAg_07 said:gougler08 said:Likely isn't a slouchThe Porkchop Express said:

True. But...
Likely < Likely + Andrews

My first thought was "but what about...," and then I remembered our victories against the Patriots and Chargers in 1979 and 1980 don't count.W said:
