The Texans are in a very good spot. They have most of the key things filled: HC, QB, LT, DE, CB. Even Nico Collins looked like a #1 this year. Christian Harris might be on a star trajectory under DeMeco. Plus lots of cap space.

I think they'll target DB and DL in free agency. Lots of CBs in free agency, and it's a light year in the draft. I think we try to keep Rankins, but the other DTs and backup DEs are just whatever we could find. Not sure if we keep Greenard or try to get someone with more size. Greenard is a good player though, so I'm inclined to keep him.

From there, we could target best available in the draft. Still would need upgrades at MLB, WR, S, and overall depth, but nothing desperate so we could let the board fall to us.

Also, still not convinced Slowik gets a HC job. He shouldn't even consider Carolina (they should be in a David Culley/Lovie Smith candidate pool), so that leaves 5 jobs. Mike MacDonald, Ben Johnson, Mike Vrabel should all be above Slowik. Then maybe Belichick, Bienemy, Harbaugh, and some other coordinators too.

Agree with this. We're in a good spot. While we have a bunch of free agents, very few are essential. I'd prioritize Greenard, Schultz, Nelson and maybe Fairbairn. But none are worth breaking the bank for and we can probably get comparable production elsewhere if they do walk.

We've got plenty of money to make a run at whoever we want and we're now an attractive destination to boot. Potential Super Bowl team in a warm weather city in a no-income tax state.

I'm probably in the minority but I wish they'd stay away from oiler blue.

Forget the Oilers all together. This is a different franchise and has nothing to do with the Oilers. A good portion of the fanbase has no recollection of the Oilers at all.

Move on and be unique instead of grasping on to the past.

I grew up a cowboys fan not an Oilers fan, so I couldn't care less about the Oilers or their color. I just like blues in that general style.

But mostly I just like those red helmets from this year. Anything that incorporates that is good with me.

Obviously this was all planned before this seasons success. However, after beating the Titans on their stupid retro day, I'd love for the club to just ditch the Columbia blue accents altogether and say "nah, we don't need that stank anymore"

Oline is the biggest glaring need.

Not only pass pro, but also a complete lack of running game in the playoffs.

Yep, the difference in the Texans OL vs the other 3 teams that played yesterday was massive

I think this would hurt more than Slowik getting a HC gig. Would love to keep JJ here and be the heir apparent when Bobby does depart.

I think taking that job would be a mistake. Dennis Allen is firmly on the hot seat and hard to see how they improve with their cap situation.

Then again, if Slowik does stay this year and the Saints clean house next year, we could bring Jerrod back with a year calling plays under his belt.

It's odd how TexAgs posters believe Jerrod Johnson, an Aggie, is the key to the entire coaching staff.

DeMeco is the key, but losing both Jerrod and Slowik would be tough.

Not only that but the D line as well. We're sorely lacking in big uglies on both sides of the ball

Free agents, I think we work to keep Greenard and Kaimi. I know, kickers, but having a really good one on hand is essential. Ask the 2012 Aggies.

Re: the unis…….I'm with some of y'all on here. If we can't keep the Oilers name, then I'm really not all that interested in keeping their colors. I'm fine with the look we have right now TBH

Great year overall and can't wait to run it back next fall

That's a much better job than the Saints (feels weird saying that). If Slowik stays, JJ should take that job if offered.

Do we get extra draft picks if Jerrod goes an OC somewhere?

No, Assistants are freely allowed to move. Especially if a promotion is involved.

No, meant because he is a minority hire. It may be only GM/HC, but the Ravens got an extra couple picks when we hired Culley

So do we have enough cap to pick up Mike Evans and Derrick Henry? I'm guessing no.....

Michael Pittman Jr would be a helluva an add if the age of Mike Evans scares us away.

I don't think the age of Mike Evans scares anyone away. It'll be the money if anything

Mike Evans is 30. No reason at all you can't give him a good 3 or 4 year deal

Mike's career earnings are listed at $110 million.

Wonder if he would be willing to give his hometown team a slight discount to come home.

Not being antagonistic here, but who was the last 30+ WR that signed a big contract who actually lived up to it? I'm a huge Mike Evans's fan, but I believe it would be a mistake for the Texans to give him a top WR contract for 3 to 4 years.

How many of those big contract guys showed the consistency that Evans has? A lot of those guys were more hype than production (OBJ, Brown, etc)

Guys over 30 can definitely be risky. But I'd be willing to risk it with Evans. He's been very durable and with his size and strength, I think he can still be effective if he loses a step.
Cartographer

I hope we can get a guy like Evans. Would be a great pick up if the value is there. That said, you just gotta draft well and build a real oline that can clear for the run. This team is a running game away from great things. Hopefully they can re-sign some of the defensive players that had a big impact.

I don't mind signing Evans if he doesn't mind being WR2/3.

I would think we should be stoked.

10 years of 1000+ yard seasons? Great red zone receiver with his physical stats? Yup, the ag tag is just a bonus!

Yes, I mean that would be awesome, but you have Nico Collins who made 1 million this year with about the same stats as Mike Evans who made 16 million this year, and on a new WR reset will probably be asking for at least 20 million a year. Is that production worth a max contract that will significantly impact our salary cap for a guy who, according to every analytic measure, has hit his peak? Evans might be able to hold up, he's an awesome player, but analytics shows that the age of 30 is a very big age for WRs and production/wear and tear.

If Evans was willing to come for a hometown discount of 10 mil a year or something, then hell yeah. But, I think we could do much better with our money than signing a top flight receiver who, according to probability, is starting on the downward side of his career.
