Another hit piece on yahoo this morning proclaiming racism why he isn't a HC yet. I don't think it's racism, but there has to be something glaring besides all the personal troubles he's had in the past? Why is it?

I wonder if he doesn't interview well? That would be a huge strike against him being a head coach since he would have to be the face of the franchise with the press.

Also, he has a pretty extensive arrest record which includes a lot of physical violence (including one against a female) when he was a player. Which would be double hits if he doesn't interview well.

Everyone knows he doesn't call the plays.

That too, Andy Reid calls all the plays (which should be obvious to anyone that watches the games). And there has to be something more than just racism, because if teams think he could take them to a super bowl, they would hire him, even with his baggage. Especially with Kafka having success in New York away from the Andy Reid umbrella. I'm guessing that Bieniemy just doesn't interview well, which mixed with legal baggage and the fact that he doesn't already call plays makes it tough to hire him as a HC. I think if he went somewhere else to be the play calling HC, and was successful, he would get a HC spot quicker than staying in KC.

Still amazes me that NFL owners as a collective... who spend millions of dollars every month on payroll to black athletes... are constantly accused of racism.

The equal outcome over equal opportunity people's goal of creating a clown world will never cease to blow my mind.

I think the biggest issue for a long time in coach hires is the NFL fell into a fraternity pattern, which if you look at it from a certain point of view can look racist, but it was more about inclusion/exclusion in the club.

I don't think NFL teams excluded black coaches because they were black (most of the time, as I'm sure there were/are some racists here and there in the NFL), but instead because they weren't in the coaching trees/hierarchy that were in place and that used to take decades to get into. GMs and owners would only hire people they knew and trusted, which were the same group of coaches over and over.

And actually, this is where I do think the rooney rule actually helped in the NFL, by forcing GMs and owners to go outside of their comfort zone of hiring from the same coaching tree. The confusion most people have about the rule, it that coaches outside of the owner/GM comfort zone haven't been exclusively black.

So as a side note, in my opinion, the rooney rule was very successful over the last decade, but not for the explicit reason that most people wanted in place for. And a lot of coaches over the years wee snubbed more because they weren't a part of the in "group" than because they were a specific race. But racism gets labeled because the in group was predominately white being the nature of having an "in group"

Bieniemy's ship has sailed.

it's amazing how the sports media gives him a pass for his violence toward women

If I was Bienemy, I'd just wait it out in KC. If he's next in line after Reid, the opportunity to coach the back-end of Mahomes' prime is better than just about any other job that could possibly open.

Their title window will be open as long as Mahomes is there.

He probably knows he's next in line at KC and has a good thing going. Would be an easy transition for him as opposed to starting something new elsewere with a team in a bad spot.

It amazes me that people think everyone should be promoted till failure
How bout we just let him collect his 3 million a year and win

Media gonna push bs racism to get him a job and when he fails they will scream racism when he gets fired
Typical media bs creating a narrative that this man deserves a HC job

where the media should be upset...

Byron Leftwich was on pace to become a head coach...

but Tampa got cute with Arians sudden retirement and promoted Bowles to head coach (without other interviews) -- selected a guy that was known to be a mediocre head coach.

and sure enough Tampa went from 13-4 to 8-9. And Leftwich was made the scapegoat.

we'll see if Leftwich can someday get back in the head coaching mix

I'm not saying Bienemey not getting a HC gig is because of racism but the quoted post above is nonsense. Anyone with a brain should be able to see coaching opportunities, especially head coaching jobs, are a completely different animal than playing opportunities. 57.5% of players in the NFL in 2023 are black yet they make up 8.7% of coaches. Right now there are 4 black head coaches if you include Mike McDaniel who identifies as biracial. Surely you can understand why this angers the black community, right?

If Bieniemy wants to be a HC he either needs to wait out Reid or leave KC. His best bet would be to go somewhere with a defensive HC with a lackluster offense so he would have the opportunity to build it how he wants and call the plays. Did he even get any interviews this time around?

Current teams without an OC:

Indianapolis - likely to draft a QB in round 1, but hired Steichen (Philly OC)
Arizona - Kyler Murray at QB, hired Gannon (Philly DC)
Philadelphia - Jalen Hurts
Tampa Bay - Brady retired, successor unknown
Washington - said Sam Howell will be QB1 (for now at least)

If he wanted to really improve his profile as a HC candidate I'd say his best option on paper is Tampa Bay. Bowles is their HC and he's a defensive guy, Bieniemy being really experienced might allow him to come in with a lot of trust already there. Bowles might be far more agreeable than any of the other HC's to letting him run the show offensively. They need a QB though so that's not a great jumping off point for him.

I think everyones making it harder than it has to be. Right now it's just 17 interviews with no hire. I don't think play calling or issues at CU are even really a consideration for any owner. Hiring a flavor of the month coordinator makes them look smart in front of their fellow owners. Hiring someone who got turned down 17 times does not.

The entitlement of the black race in this country is flat out pathetic. The reason why there aren't more black coaches is because there are more talented options. Just like the players themselves. You draft and sign who you feel is the best you can get….

Cmon now...He's been rejected 17 times so I don't him is absurd.

Especially in the NFL where they love retread hires and guys who've been fired numerous times over still get jobs.

The questions is why has he been rejected 17 times?

My gut tells me that if he got hired, someone would do some open record requests in Colorado and the details of all of those complaints against him would come out and be much nastier than what's already been reported, meaning the team that hired him would either have to fire him on the spot or weather a very ugly storm.

My point is that it doesn't matter when it hits 17. He could interview perfectly, have great assistants to bring, have a great story about growth from CU days, blah blah and he's going to continue to be passed over because an owner says "mmm...nah. all my friends passed on him, so I cant look stupid by hiring".

I am not sure why retreads is confusing to you. It happens classically in businesses at CEO level when guys repeatedly run companies into the ground. they get jobs because they convinced someone to hire them first. It gives the 2nd hire guy some cover.

Youll also notice that retreads are kinda down now though. Several have Super Bowls, so that always keeps them in play.

We already know that the attendant was "startled", but not painful. I am not sure what would come of anything surrounding drugs/prostitutes to recruits that one would get on an open record request.

You really think every single GM has hired the best they can get? Come on, you know thats not true. Perception of hire goes a long way in determining keeping a GM around. They know that.

I think there are a lot of trolls in this thread and I'm not even sure why I'm engaging in this nonsense.

You have no problem stating the fact that over 50% of the NFL is black players. Combine that with the fact that the country is only ~ 13% black and you have pretty good evidence that the NFL is performance, not equality, driven.

Now then, how many NFL head coaches are black every season? 4 or 5 on average at a guess. Well what do you know... that's ~12-15%.

So is it fair to say that, assuming blacks & whites are equally qualified to coach, the numbers have more to do with the percentages of population?

But it doesn't matter what anybody says or the facts that are given. Until the outcomes are equal nothing else matters to some of y'all so it's a pointless conversation. Flame away, I seriously hope this is my last post in this thread so y'all can have the last word.
