Will be starting at QB for the NFC West leaders next weekend.

He went 25-37 with 2 TDs and 1 INT after Jimmy G went down against Miami this week. Not too shabby.

Brock Purdy played fairly well against the Miami Dolphins. I think he will lead the 49ers to an 11-6 or 12-5 regular season finish and the NFC West division title, which will give the 49ers a home playoff game. Assuming the 49ers win the NFC West, they probably won't catch the 11-1 Philadelphia Eagles for the No. 1 seed or 10-2 Minnesota Vikings for the No. 2 seed. That means the 49ers will probably get the No. 3 seed and host the No. 6 seed in the wild card round.

The whole concept of "Mr Irrelevant" hasn't made any sense since they went from 12 rounds to 7. Pet peeve.

Assuming Purdy starts the rest of the Niners' games this season, he'll have 5 games starting under center, plus any playoff games, and most of last weekend's game. That would be more starts than Lance, and almost as many total games, maybe even more if the Niners get into the playoffs and win a game.

That could make training camp interesting next summer. And SF does have some history of a starting QB losing his job due to injury. See Smith, Alex, and Montana, Joe.

Edit: I just went and looked, and of the other QBs taken in this years draft, three - Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis, and Bailey Zappe - have actually played so far. Small sample size, but Purdy's completion % is better than Willis (Rd3), and comparable to Pickett (1) and Zappe (4) and his TD/INT ratio is better than any of them. (Purdy 2/1, Zappe 5/3, Pickett 4/8)

It was great to watch the San Francisco 49ers dominate the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-7 to win 6 consecutive games and improve to 9-4. In his rookie debut, 49ers third-string quarterback and "Mr. Irrelevant" Brock Purdy outplayed the NFL's most accomplished quarterback in Tom Brady. With the Carolina Panthers' 30-24 upset win over the Seattle Seahawks on the road, the 49ers now have a 2-game lead over the 7-6 Seahawks in the NFC West. Go 49ers!

I wonder if ISU's coach doesn't regret taking the big money after those Purdy seasons.

Started as a freshmen
Tied for third his freshmen and sophomore year (B12)
Won the B12 his junior year (regular season); lost in title game to OU.
4th in B12 his senior year. Coach Matt Campbell is a hot name, even with the drop off from last season.

They went 4-8 (last in Big 12) this year without him, right where they usually hang out.

Still, how fun for the family to go from this

how the hell are the 49ers failing forward

Purdy clears up the Jimmy G problem once and for all and clears up cap space.

They just keep Lance for 1 year as back up and then either trade or let him go

Well that took a bit longer than expected
But Purdy passes Lance in career TDs in his third game

Brock Purdy has proven to be a great fit for Kyle Shannahan's offense. By winning a tough road game on a short week with a rookie quarterback, the 49ers clinched the NFC West. The No. 1 seed is probably out of reach because the 12-1 Philaadelphia Eagles will probably clinch that spot. But I think the 10-4 49ers can win out and surpass the 10-3 Minnestoa Vikings for the No. 2 seed.

the playoffs are really setting up well for the 49ers.

SF is tracking toward a divisional round game vs. the Vikings...and would not face the Cowboys or Eagles until the NFC Championship game

Purdy was nails at Iowa State. Not sure what he lacked in the combine to go so low.

It just goes to show they miss on QBs more often than not.

Purdy is now the first rookie QB since 1950 to win his first 3 NFL starts.

I will caveat that by noting that most of the time, if a rookie is starting at QB, the team isn't very good. Especially for the highly hyped rookies drafted in the top of the first round. And most rookies QBs aren't starting on a team that has possibly the best defense in the league. Nor do they have CMC, George Kittle, and Deebo Samuel (sometimes) to give the ball to.

But it's still impressive, especially on the road in Seattle.

Yes, Brock Purdy's 3-0 start is impressive, even with a very talented and well-coached team. The most impressive win was a 21-13 win at Seattle on 12/15 after a short week. However, Carson Wentz started 3-0 in his rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016.

With Denver officially the worst team in the NFL the Trey Lance pick is just barely better than Let It Ride trade

Niners TE George Kittle is pushing Purdy for OROY. Tough case to make for a player who played in less than half the team's games, but I won't deny there's a case to be made.

At the very least, he's done the best of any rookie QB in the league.

Brock Purdy is now the only player taken last in the draft in the common era (post-1967) to score a TD in a playoff game.

As much upside as Lance offers, the clear choice is to roll with Purdue. What do you think the 49ers could get for Trey Lance? Late 1st?

He will be Purdy back up
He is untradable with #3 pick money and he sucks
He is inaccurate inexperienced and isn't an elite athlete

It is kind Monday Morning QB at this point, but Purdy is a perfect example of a resume that screams solid NFL QB. If I am an NFL GM I never draft a QB from a stacked college program. Most of those QB's were highly recruited from stacked high school programs, so they spend their entire football career prior to the NFL playing in games where they are rarely challenged. When they get to the NFL where everyone is good they are shocked.

Give me the QB who played on a good college team that didn't out-talent everyone and who took his lumps some, but also led a few upsets. Those guys walk into the NFL ready.

Look up the Parcells rule for drafting QBs..,Purdy met those requirements. He should not have been so overlooked in the draft.
