A new HC exempts you from being selected.

So does drawing about 20 people. Unless HBO has a death wish, there is literally no reason for them to pick the Texans.
I had season tickets in 2002 and last paid to see a game in maybe 2011. I have gotten so many emails from the Texans about "Hey we miss you!" "Come back to the fun!" and "It's a whole new ball game!" since April, I shudder to think what their numbers must look like on ticket sales.

There was an article in the chron on this a couple weeks back. I don't remember the specifics exactly, but the gist was one of their reporters put his name on the waiting list about a decade ago. As of a couple years ago, still had 12,000 in front of him. 7,000 ahead of him earlier this year, but then he was offered tickets a few weeks later.

Sounds like they've blown through a decade's worth of waiting list in a couple months.

Jerome Solomon he's a blow hard but it was a good way to illustrate just how many fans they are losing

The question to me is why now?

They've been a joke for years and it's the literally the same song and dance year in and year out.

This is nothing new.

I dont understand why anyone would spend one single red cent on the texans. Between the trash on the field and the type of people in the stands to the ridiculous sanitized and commercialized experience, it just seems like a complete waste of time and money. Imagine the amazing in home viewing area you could make with just the price of one seasons tickets. You could upgrade every year and still come out ahead.

They are at a low point, even for them. There is a crisis of confidence at every level of the organization, which I'm not sure you could say before.

Throw in no high-end talent to build around and no draft capital the last couple years and here we are.

Edit-or to put it another way, in prior years, there was always some way to talk yourself into them improving. Now, maybe that was just cockeyed optimism (which was Billy Mumphry's downfall), but it could be done. Really hard to talk yourself into that now.

The good old days of watching David Carr become a human piñata.

610 and Monday morning excuse making.

Good times...

Unfortunately, I was right there eating it up.

But there were a lot more reasons to be optimistic back then. Carr was a young, No. 1 pick QB. Just took AJ No. 3. Domanick Davis looking like a good young back.

From a potential standpoint, that team looks lightyears better than this one.

The only way to be optimistic is to view the team with no expectations for 3-4 years and hope Caserio builds them into a developing team around the end of that period. No one expects the team to win. No one expects Culley to be the coach long term - he is a glorified culture coach to reset the team culture to what "leadership" wants it to be. In many ways, the team is constructed in a way that no one expects to be here long term, but it behooves everybody individually to try for success because its an opportunity for the next step.

Caserio is the only one to place hope in. Maybe he can build a team to have success despite the other issues in the building. Not optimistic, though.

Sounds like we might be headed back to the Oiler era of home blackouts. That was always the bonus of being an Oiler fan at A&M, College Station was 3 miles outside th blackout range.

About a month ago, I got an email inviting me to an open house at NRG to meet with season ticket reps, select seats, etc. I didn't go, of course. About two weeks ago, I got another email saying that even though I missed the last event, they still wanted me to be able to select seats, so I had one more chance to attend another open house. Again, I didn't go. About an hour ago, I got another email about another open house next week. Something tells me these open houses, and ticket sales in general, are not going the way they hoped they would.

I loathe the odious Bud Adams and his offspring.

I don't care about Fischer & Reese, but Bum Phillips has nothing to do with Tennessee or the Titans. That's just yet another **** you to Houston and its fans from that family of irredeemable asshats.

Based on how Culley treated off-season work outs, I'm pretty sure they aren't going to have meaningful practices either. I doubt the team has any secrets to hide and they will basically try to wing it all season long.

I think they underestimated how much season ticket holders will care. Season ticket holders shell out probably at least $2k a year and are subject to 10/11 games (including preseason). Why go sit in the blazing sun for a practice when you can watch them get their ass kicked in AC all fall? Season ticket holders are already going to skip a ton of games, why go to a practice?

Maybe they don't want the general public to show up and voice their disgust

This. They probably think that the season ticket holders would create a less toxic environment.

Plenty to get upset about with this team, but I'm not sure what you mean by how Culley treated off-season workouts.

By all accounts, they are desperately trying to sell season tickets. The waitlist has dwindled to no one. I think this is just a desperate attempt to sell more tickets, by attaching the added benefit of getting to go to practice. Silly in my opinion, maybe even delusional. But I think that is all it is.

Didnt' they call OTAs? Maybe that's what he is referring to?

If you are trying to get fans on board this isn't the way. Screams desperation.

They should bring back the meet the Texans night for season ticket holders should they want to do something.

Culley basically did a 10 days of OTAs and then canceled the mandatory minicamp saying they accomplished all their goals.

It's a last place team with potentially a new QB and a new offensive system. I can't imagine why he didn't think his team needed extra work.

No they did OTAs. They cancelled the 3 day mini camp because the players met certain conditions by the end of OTAs. I don't have a problem with the staff keeping their end of the deal, but others do I suppose.

I have a problem that the deal was even considered, much less offered.

OTAs aren't mandatory. Get 10 days of work in and have a longer break, or get 3 days of work in with a shorter break. I think that was the general idea behind the deal.
Agstro

Fair point. Still don't think they should have been making deals on that though.

Not a single team that made the divisional round cancelled their mini camp. Not even the Ravens, Culleys former team. The only playoff team to cancel their mini camp was the colts. The other 3 were last place teams. There are few arguments that would convince me that the Texans have some how found a cutting edge the rest of the NFL elite has missed.

The team needs extra work. They were awful last year.

LOL. Another email about another Texans open house and opportunity to meet with season ticket agents, blah blah blah. That's the fourth one I've gotten, and each one makes it sound like it's the last chance to get in on the action. Hard Times on Kirby, I guess.

Well, yeah you are right they stink. I don't think cancelling mini camp was an attempt to convince the fans that they tapped into some secret. I think it was an attempt to endear the coaching staff to the players. To send a message that the staff can be trusted. Not sure it's going to pay off, and I doubt it has any bearing on this coming season.

I think in reality, with all the new players most would have shown up for OTAs anyway. But they made a commitment and stuck to it.
