Why the ef does DirecTV not offer NFL Redzone by itself?

Every time I call and complain that Dish and Uverse and others have it as a stand-alone, they just say "yeah sorry we only offer it as a free add-on with NFL Sunday Ticket"

Which is $63.99/month X 5 months = $320+ retail... and even with a "deal", it'll still be around $220.

All I need is NFL Redzone for the $10-$20/month it would be for Dish, Uverse, and all them

I asked them the same question when I had DirecTV (have since switched to FIOS). Keep in mind though that DirecTV's Red Zone channel is not the same as the NFL Red Zone channel offered by other carriers. Same concept, different broadcast.

NFL RZ>>>>>>>>>>> DTV RZ

If you really don't care to watch individual games of out of town teams I don't see the appeal of DTV.

I also think it is odd that it is not included for a small upgrade to those who already have NFL Network. Guess they think it might go against their bottom line to provide a cheap (and better quality) competitor to their own network.

Of course, on Dish, there's no MLB Network or Big Ten Network and ESPN Classic for some reason is not included with the other ESPN networks (you have to order it separately as part of another package).

NFL Redzone was something like 6.99 last year on Dish if I'm not mistaken. Watched it during their free preview week one and didn't upgrade.

The sad thing is I'd pay $15/month for just redzone.

I know some people have successfully gotten Redzone with DirecTV as a stand-alone option... but it's rare.

I'll keep trying though. I get how it would cannibalize their Sunday Ticket sales but I'd also think they'd get a lot of people who are like me who don't need Sunday Ticket and/or don't wanna pay the $320 price tag for it.

yeah, some have posted if you're a DTV subscriber and aren't under contract, you can threaten to cancel and they'll give it to you for free. my contract's not up until Jan. but I'm gonna go ahead and give them a call, threaten to leave them when my contract is up and point out that I've been a loyal customer for 5+ years, including getting Sunday Ticket every year except this year. Unfortunately, every cable/satellite company works this way now.

Yeah I did the threaten to cancel thing last night... didn't work.

I'm all over the thread on slickdeals... sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

I can't complain much with my $39.99/mo directv bill with AAA discount free HD for life and that trial of showtime and Starz on the Choice Extra package and whole home DVR

how long before your contract is up?

Whether they give you a price break depends on whether you are under contract (duh) and how many times they have given you breaks on things in the past. Plus if you subscribe to premium channels other than Direct Ticket they are straight banking on you so they will give you more perks.

I'm only like 3-4 months into my contract lol which makes getting any kind of deals impossible I know

you can add it alone in dish?

as far as i know you have to order the 'multi-sport pack' and to be eligible for that you have to have a certain package already

Ugh that free preview of NFL Sunday ticket was NICE. Very cool features.

In the end, I only used Redzone... the idiots are basically turning away my money by spitting the whole "sorry this only comes with sunday ticket"

People out of contract were offered redzone by itself though. Ugh

well, i made it happen.

called them this morning, got past the first guy, and basically made my case that i've been with them for 5 years, getting sunday ticket every year (except this year) and that my contract is up in january and would look elsewhere. at first they tried to deny it was available, but eventually said that it's available to some subscribers, based on some factors the person i talked to didn't know. either way, i was eligible for it and have it free for the season. sweet.

Nfl redzone will put the direct tv thing out of business.

turtle...not a chance. the target market for Sunday Ticket is guys like me, who want to watch their favorite team out of market. Not living in Houston since 2004 I've had Sunday Ticket every season since then. It's a cheaper alternative to going to the bar to watch Houston play every week.

Padz is correct. Everyone I know that has it is transplant and wants to be able to see all their hometown games.
