Howdy!
Long time listener, first time caller. I am hoping someone can point me in the direction of either networking events or referrals for technology roles preferably in Houston. I have been remote for the last 4 years from customer success, to technical training, to now a product owner for a Fintech company in Austin. I am open to roles in Houston to be able to have more of a hybrid schedule. I know Htown is all oil & gas, but I have experience in various industries such as transportation, education (which is my major), and more. I busted my butt & taught myself SQL to get into technology.
My company has been doing 2-5% RIFs every quarter and unfortunately, my boss/mentor was impacted. I am devastated as they were the person who gave me a chance to be in product and created my role. My entire team was dispersed and I am preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best. I recognize an opportunity for me here but I do feel a bit insecure without them there. They provided a shield for me and my team from the more, "evil" people in the organization. They also spoke up for what's right and had an amazing plan for the growth of the company through a product lens vs. sales especially being in tech where good code is the bread and butter. They were also an Aggie!!
Overall I feel like my time at the company is nearing its end as I see the writing on the wall with this change. I know layoffs are business and not personal, but I am ready for a new adventure in my city!
