Are there any companies or consultants that help reconstruct/rewrite a resume for maximum results on parsing on AI/algorythms?

My Dec 2023 graduate son's resume isn't parsing well and he has tried a few variations and none have worked well. Also advice on key word changes and word structure/language

Has anyone used a service like TopResume or something similar?

has he used Teal? It has a lot of AI tools that help you craft your resume for each position so that key words are hit by the ATS and gets more eyes on it.

I dont think so. I will see if he wants to try it.

What do you mean by not parsing well? Just save it in a Word doc and it should parse just fine with every ATS out there.

What I mean is:

1) a lot of the information ends up in all the wrong boxes, jumbled up etc. and he ends up having to rewrite everything on his applications anyway where there is manual space to fill in. I think its how his resume is formatted tbh. I saw a post by someone on here in another thread that had worked on designing ATS and gave a bunch of suggestions....my sons resume definitely doesnt follow those.

2) he has been "cut" from a number of job opportunities that he applied for very quickly, sometimes between 3pm on a Sat and 1am on Sunday (no human ever saw it) and a couple of those the job descriptions literally listed his skills and experience almost exactly so clearly something isnt translating well.

He is a recent MSEN grad (young engineers often arent the best writers, lets be honest) who also has both ADHD and Dyslexia. He went to the career center and the resume he has was "approved" by them but after reading stuff about ATS i see a lot of issues like its written in two columns, uses a lot of bullets, used header and footer etc etc

I was hoping to give him some actual professional help on how to write and structure his resume. I way too out of practice to help and frankly its out of my wheelhouse

He might have some luck posting or just looking on the reddit sub r/resumes, just be sure to blank out any of his personal info before posting. They generally give good advice, also he can see how others have their resume formatted and the most popular formats.

Im going to guess his resume is just fine, its just a tough job market right now, especially for recent grads, and lots of competition.

Hows his GPA? Any internships? No college career fairs?

3.34 final overall gpa
BS in MSEN with Corrosion Engineering Certificate

Chemical Engineer Intern at Nabors Industries in R&D department last summer

Worked for about 12-15 months at National Corrosion and Materials Reliability Lab at Rellis between his Undergraduate Research and his job as a student technician/research assistant.

Quite a bit of hands on lab experience for a Dec grad given only one "true" Internship, but as you mentioned, it isn't easy for new grads. Everyone wants 5+ yrs experience.

I think he has 4 or 5 apps into SWRI and has applied to Dow, Velaro and BP. I know he has applied to a bunch of space companies as well

I just made a text document resume to cut and paste sections into the stupid online application fields.

The better run hiring pipelines just take a resume document and don't make you fill out fields to capture your resume.

Even as a seasoned professional with a litany of accomplishments and achievements, these AI/algorithmic programs frequently kick me out when I know a person never examined my credentials. That's what this is coming to.

The old adage, it's who you know, is more important now that ever.

100% agree. But that's pretty tough for new grads.
Hopefully he finds a home, but I do understand that without a break, it will probably take him a while.

Ah…did this for 4 months nearly every day. Then I started putting:

SEE RESUME, ATTACHED.

SEE RESUME, ATTACHED.

SEE RESUME, ATTACHED.

SEE RESUME, ATTACHED.

SEE RESUME, ATTACHED.

That didn't work much better but It sped up the process.
