I've been remote for a long time but have to return to office a few days a week. I really need to refresh my whole work wardrobe. Just curious where everyone shops for office attire? I have limited sense of style.

This is specific to shoes but the office environment has become so much more casual over the last 5 years where i work. It was already moving in this direction before covid. Dress shoes with white soles seems to be a recent trend. People would have thought you were crazy to wear shoes like that back in the day. Bought a pair from Cole Haan yesterday and they are super comfortable.

Formal: the Men's Wearhouse. Shirts: Paul Frederick. Ties: Brooks Brothers or Jos A Bank.

Casual office wear: the most comfortable kakkis I can find, and outlet mall name brand shirts. Sometimes I even find crazy deals on eBay.

Thankfully our office is casual. I generally wear jeans and a polo. Trade off between boots and tennis shoes.

The subject of office attire always makes me laugh because it reminds me of this time that it was discussed at my last firm and the concensus was "dress up or down to your client's attire and more formal if giving a presentation".

I went to a meeting the next day and a member of the client team showed up in shorts and a t-shirt...which he tucked into the shorts.

I was excited to share this with my boss when I got back to the office and he said, "absolutely not".

My employer has seen a dramatic shift. When I started there in 2011, we were full suit and tie every day. 2014 we lost the ties. By 2019 you'd see polos, quarter zips etc more regularly. Today, rare to see a suit or even a sport coat. Mostly button downs (some tucked in,many not), polos, quarter zips. Nice sneakers prevail.

I pretty much exclusively buy Peter Millar. Quality is exceptional and can wear the stuff 365 days a year for most any setting. The stuff ain't cheap though. I'm sure you can find an alternative. Less expensive alternatives include Onward Reserve, Cutter and Buck, Vineyard Vines outlets.

It is interesting to see how our culture/attire shifted so dramatically over a decade.

I like lulu and vuori most days with nice exceptionally clean sneakers (madewell or AF1 low tops) on Friday jeans boots and a sports coat

It's pretty rare that I have to wear a suit these days or even a jacket for that matter. Covid really changed things.

I'll wear David Donahue, Peter Millar, and whatever else I like at Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus.

I just wear jeans 95% of the time.

I like rubber bottom dress shoes. I decided I don't care enough for leather bottom anymore.

Tyndale and Murdoch's. I work in refineries and processing plants so I have to buy FR clothing. I think the last time I bought clothes like regular folks was around 2010?

I'm in your situation as well where I work in the office a couple of days a week. I get all my clothes custom made for me. I realize that sounds pretentious, but Raj comes in from Thailand twice per year and sets up a suite at the hotel near Westheimer and here in The Woodlands. He brings swatches in for suits, trousers, shirts, etc. He'll take all of your measurements and you pick the fabrics you like. He returns to Thailand and custom makes your clothes and ships it to you. It takes about 6 weeks or so. Want super 120 wool? He's got it. Want your initials in your suit or on your sleeve? He'll do it. Need the left cuff bigger than the right to accommodate a watch? He'll do that too.

His prices are very fair. I pay about $60 for shirts. Trousers run about $90, but the fit cannot be beat as they are custom made to your size.

If I have to go with "off-the-rack" stuff, I'll order Charles Tyrwhitt. Shoes I wear Alan Edmonds. They're expensive, but they'll last you for decades.

I did this for a long time with a guy in Seattle. It wasn't cheap, but those things fit like a glove. I still do this for suits. I have deep zipper pockets added in the front pant pockets and do zipper interior pockets on the jackets. I felt great traveling internationally with my passport back when I did that more often.

I'm fortunate to have found a couple of brands/cuts where I can buy it and have it tailored for similar results.

Second on Allen Edmonds for leather bottom. My knees aren't as good as they used to be, so I try to stick with rubber bottom now.

AE has some shoes that aren't leather bottom. Have you checked those out with the dainite rubber sole? If so, curious to hear your opinion on them. I've never purchased that sole but would consider it.

Back in the day, I had a female boss who thought the men in her department needed to dress nicer. So she asked some executives where they bought their clothes, and then told me, "You guys need to be buying your suits at M. Penner. That's where all the VPs shop."

In a flash of brilliance, I replied: "But we can only afford M. Warehouse."

She never brought it up again. And within a year, we had moved to business casual.

Clearance rack a Kohls. $5 shirts and $5 pants. But my role is about 5% how I look and 95% if my team finishes projects on time and on budget.

Buy my jeans at Costco, and usually golf polos from the company store. Some are Nike, some are Cutter & Buck, some are no-name brand. I also have some Dockers that I wear that I got on Amazon. I have some button downs from Lands End, Macy's, Jos A Banks that I'll wear in the winter/fall.

If I go to an industry event, I'll wear the one sport coat I have and a button down shirt and a pair of slacks.
