How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have the opportunity to take an internal role with my consulting firm. I honestly can't decide what to do. It seems like its a major fork in my career. I have a 1, 2, and 6 year old.

Current Job:
Client Facing (Technology Consulting)
Probably up to 50% travel (last 2 years has been less than 10% and its slowly coming back, and I will likely travel more as I move up.)
Annual sales target pressure
5 year comp projection: 40% growth
10 year comp projection: 3-4X growth (partner track)
Pros: Comp / Interesting work
Cons: Travel (If I really ended up at 50% I'd be miserable)

Offered Position:
Non-client facing
Less pressure / No sales targets etc.
No travel
Work from home/remote
5 year comp projection: 25% growth
10 year comp projection: 50-75% growth
Pros: Work from home, no travel
Cons: Comp is lower, but good for the work performed, Will probably be bored

Anything else I should be considering?

Looks like a pretty big difference in pay, but the 3 young kids factor sticks out for sure. I assume you've obviously discussed it with your wife...how does she feel about it? Being alone 50% of the time, she might go insane before any of them hit middle school (my wife certainly would).

Client facing partner track with a healthy amount of travel sounds miserable to me. Just about unmanageable with kids.

On the other hand, a non revenue generating role at a consulting firm sounds tenuous without knowing the details.

I'd probably stay on the client facing side and look at companies that give me a little more balance.

If it actually got to 50% it would be a serious problem for both my wife and me.

I have somehow managed to keep travel extremely low over the years, but I think that will eventually revert to the mean. I may not always have that luxury.

i.e. I just turned down taking on a new client for a 1/3 of my annual sales target because it was almost 100% travel. If I keep doing things like that I may not make partner anyway in my current role.

Thanks everyone.

I am taking the new role. I had to just take it back to my priorities in life. Faith and Family have to come first.

As your kids get older being around more gets more important. My husband was gone a lot when our sons were younger but the last 2 years he has been home pretty much every afternoon and can help with practices and games etc. Now, if he isn't home, they question where he is at and when he is coming home etc etc. They used to not even notice when he would be gone for 3 plus days. I don't think you will regret being around them as much as you can while they are young.

That's complete horse*****

Oh my.

It's not about the kids seeing him , it's him being able to spend time with the kids.

They grow and change so much if you blink you miss it.

He made a great decision.

Your last sentence with the negatives confused me.

My apologies. Carry on.
