Which do you all prefer working for/within? I've worked for giant corporations and small companies and both have pros and cons. Curious to hear what kind of companies yall work for and why you like/dislike it

It'll depend on the individual. Some people like corporate structure that gives them a guideline for their career. Others don't like the political bs seen in larger companies. I've worked for both and prefer small. I like the close knit family atmosphere. No one at work is going to stab me in the back, and typically, I am better compensated. There are cons, I would like to travel some for work, but our area is tiny, so that won't happen.

My company is both. Our Dallas office used to be its own company then was bought by JPMorgan but continued to operate independently, so we maintained our fairly small culture. We're now part of a company of 4000 but our Dallas office of about 350 still has its own culture among a much larger company.

Worked for several of each. Unfortunately it's not as simple as small versus large. Either one can be good, either one can be bad. I'm ready to cycle back to small for an equity stake.

Both can be good, both can be bad. At a big company you really need to look at your future manager and the culture of your department. At a small company you really need to look at your future manager and the quality of the ownership/executives. My opinion anyway.

I worked for a all company that was bought out by a large company.

The perks are all gone.

Summer hours, 2 weeks a year off not vacation, awards, trips, gone.

Been working at a large company for a little over 5 years now so don't know what it's like to work for a small company.

That said, the politics and big corporate initiatives that tend to only complicate our daily lives are beginning to wear a bit thin. Also, the creation of new management positions just for the sake of making someone a manager is ridiculous. We need more individual contributors that will actually perform work in many key areas, but only seems to get more managers that don't do anything.

Ktown,

The problem at a small company is that you have to wait until a manager quits, gets fired, or dies to get promoted to manager so there is the other side of that coin too... I have been trying to get my senior financial analyst a promotion so he can feel appreciated but since I am a manager and he reports to me, this has been a struggle...
