Howdy,

My younger brother (Ag as well) will be leaving the Navy around January (currently in DC/Baltimore) after 7 years of service. Two of them learning Mandarin Chinese at the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, CA. The past 3 years stationed at Fort Meade working at the NSA as a Network Vulnerability Analyst and is seeking opportunities that may match his skill set back here in Texas.

His current position includes penetration testing of Department of Defense Networks, preparing vulnerability/mitigation reports, briefing high-level commanders, and training new operators. He has a Top Secret/SCI clearance with a Counter Intelligence Polygraph. Currently hold Network+ and Security+ computer certifications and will have CCNA and CISSP by the time he gets out of the Navy in mid-January. Very familiar with Windows Operating Systems, Linux/Unix, Cisco Routers/Switches along w/ Penetration Testing tools (Nmap/wireshark/ethereal/netcat, etc), Data Mining, Open Source Research, and DOD Information Assurance Regulations.

I know that there are companies who actively search for candidates with certain types of clearances so I thought I might pass along his information and a little bit of background in case there are any Ags on here who might have pointers on transitioning into a civilian career in the upcoming months. (i.e. where to look? thoughts on possible companies? avg. time it takes obtaining these jobs from interview to start date etc)

I believe he is looking for a job in Network Security, IT consulting, IT Manager, or something along those lines.

Again any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

USAA is always hiring qualified candidates, has a large security group, and is typically preferencial to military candidates.

I don't know of any specific openings, but Mitre would be another company that could utilize his skills and credentials.

you can tell him to post his resume on monster, Career builder, dice. With his skill set he will get a lot of calls. Just keep in mind that he will get a lot of calls that will be a wast of time. All it takes is one call though.

I've been in the field a little over a year now. (I know it's not very long) The CISSP is the gold standard. If he passes it which he should. He'll be able to virtually punch his ticket anywhere.

Look on Dice.com as well. If necessary I know a few contracting companies that could help him find a contract to hire position. He might want to look at Rackspace as well.

Where does he want to live in Texas?
