They were all pretty easy.

Gotta agree wholeheartedly with the "people who teach it" comment.

Although I had an antennas class with Dr. Wright and both me and my buddy got easy A's out of it... had a royal blast in there.

The one that was a perpetual thorn in my side was Dr. Fleming. He came in to teach an EE course I was taking after the original prof had a heart attack mid-semester. Talk about feeling like the little kid who just got shoved over to the deep end of the pool with gators added for good measure.

Well Fleming died 2-3 years back after a long fight with whatever made him look like Mr Burns from the Simpsons.

So you dont have to worry about that anymore.

Kinda hard to worry about it when going back to school is more of a nightmarish thought than a desire.

But sorry to hear of his passing. As much as I disliked his teaching style, I wouldn't wish that on anyone and he was rather iconic in the EE department.

Funny Fleming story... he told me on a couple of occasions when he was an adviser that I ought to consider getting out of engineering. "Maybe try something a little easier like computer science or business". 15 years later I'm still enjoying it in spite of rampant corporate asaninity that would make Scott Adams shriek in pain.... When my son gets out of college, I might finally take his advice, though.

wow, where to start

I would say;

chem 323 - Physical Chemistry, Thermodynamics
chem 324 - Physical Chemistry, Quantum Mechanics
chem 325 - Physical Chemistry Lab (25-30 page handwritten reports every week)

this series killed me

anyone else take any of these??

biochem ag, i will agree with you here, and i'm was a chem major. only difference is i took the pchem II lab for majors.

in addition, during graduate school: chem 610 - organic reactions

I took P-chem and that class was a joke. I'm a Chen major went to class 5 times, got an A in the class and never studied more than the night before the test if even that much.

PHYS 218 with Bassichis... I have nightmares.

Thank God I got out of engineering. I could not have gotten through 208.

218 was easy...if you had trouble with that, then you sure as hell wouldnt have gotten through 208

Randy03
How long do you want to ignore this user?
"Got out" is what 70% of freshmen engineering majors say they did ... rather than the reality their GPAs and lack of ability escorted them out.
Karrde
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not really. Most get out after one or two bad classes. Those usually don't sink your GPR enough to get you forcefully removed from the program.

Well .. 12%(of what was left) for sure dont have the grades to come back, at least last spring as this website shows.

http://www.tamu.edu/admissions/records/reports/index.php

If you look at cumulative GPA for the spring semester, shows 12% (of the spring) with lower than a 2.0, for freshmen.

There were 66 of 1288 in the fall of 2005, by the spring of 2006, those 66 were gone and 61 more out of now only 499 were left.

So 5% failed out in the fall, 5% of initial in the spring and 41% of who didnt fail out in the fall left by the spring.

It seems that you were right. A much larger percentage leave because it is hard and they dont want to, or are unable to work; than really fail out.

ELEN 444.

ELEN 322 is a cake walk compared to this class.

I would say it is more about the difficulty level than the GPR thing, although the GPR thing does happen to some. I guess people that find their freshman year a living hell realize that it is not going to get better for them. I totally understand this and people should enjoy their life in college...I stuck out engineering and enjoyed life, but it might have just come easier for me than others, just as other areas might come easier to other people than they do to me.

Every major has their problem course. Entomology 301/302 with Dr. Burke was a buttripper for Ento majors. Few failed because it was our major.

I change my vote from ELEN 322 to ELEN 405, of course I have a beetch ass project that was assigned because Im getting 7 hours for it.

I just put in 40 hours this weekend for the project and I have been putting in at least 5-6 a day every day this semester. It sucks.

As for ELEN 444, I didnt think it was that hard, if you get it with Dr. Ji or Dr. Madsen it isnt that bad, I got a B and didnt try that hard, I heard that lots of guys who had a 4.0 fell in the spring to 444 though, ha! sucks to be them, good that they lost it anyhow.

ELEN 444 was harder than ELEN 322 because I had Zixiang Xiong for 444 and Nguyen for 322.

I hear that Wright is much harder for 322.

Phys 208, I never knew what I was doing in that class and in fact I miserably failed every test. Only reason I passed the class was because of the ridiculous curve at the end.

I honestly don't understand the point of making a class so ridiculously difficult that no one would pass without a curve. There was absolutely no point in studying for tests because no matter what you would fail horribly (I didn't even bother studying for the final because I knew that I would fail no matter what). Seriously what is the point in a class like that? You learn nothing, take nothing from the class, yet you still pass because everyone else failed as well. Exactly why does anyone even have to take that class? Is it to see if you can sit through something miserable? Because if that is the reason then it failed with me because I stopped going to class after the few 2 weeks because I learned nothing in class. Easily the most worthless class I took in college.

As for the hardest class in my major, that would definitely be Atmo 446, Atmospheric Physics. No idea what was going on in that class either, professor was Asian and was way above the class intelligence wise. Thank god he was nice and willing to help and answer questions. Also I have never been more happy to receive partial credit than I was when I took that class because without it I would have gotten a ZERO on every test.

Most Freaked out - MATH 161 because I got a C with a 40% average in the class. That's how much of a curve there was.

Most Serious that you had to pay attention - AGRO 301 with Murray ****ord.

Hardest based on the number of times I took it - MATH 251.

*** Can you believe that TexAgs wouldn't let me post the name of Dr. Murray M I L F O R D? *** WTF?

bluefire: if you still read this post then here are some tips for 304/305. first and formost, go to every class take notes ask questions and don't be afraid to talk to the prof. most people in the class won't know what is going on so you aren't the only one. secondly, it is a shame saslow isn't teaching it. he knows the stuff backwards and forwards, and he expects you to know it that way. if you get him outside of class, he will do his best to help you if you show you are atleast trying. thirdly, don't be glad because i've heard sezgin can be just as rough. like i said just give it your all. you will do fine. lastly, get in the "smart" study group. it took me awhile to figure out that the "smart" group is who they give the A's and B's to while everyone else even if they give the same work will get the C's or D's. i was in two study groups, and one of them had a smart guy who didn't want to work with the other "smart" guys and he ended up with a C even though his answers were the same as the "smart" group i'd say 99% of the time but the prof didn't like many of the people from his group so he assumed the guy was cheating or just getting lucky.

that said: have fun, it is a fun course looking back on it now even though my whole last year in physics was basically doing 304/305 homework while doing enough to get by in the other classes.

Ive taken several difficult classes, but STAT 303 as several people have mentioned was insane. I have a several friends that are in some difficult majors (aero engineering, business, chem/petroleum engeineering) and when i asked them what was the most difficult course they took while at A&M, a large majority of them quickly said STAT 303. I dont know what it is about that class but is a complete pain in the butt.

Physics 208 comes in a close second.
aggieforlife
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think STAT 303 is the perfect example of the prof being the issue.
When I took it I barely madea C. I had a Grad student that couldn't even solve his own example problems. He was teaching using another grad students slides. It was worse than the blind leading the blind. Some of the kids that sit in the front had to teach him how to solve a standard deviation equation at the beginiing of the semester. It was TERRIBLE.
