Howdy,
I am a Texas A&M transfer applicant to Technology Management for Fall 2023 with a 3.71 GPA. I have 14 hours completed and 13 in progress. This past week I received my transfer audit report and immediately after that was denied without review for either under a 2.5 GPA or under 24 hours, but have the chance to be reevaluated with spring grades. Here's the thing:

I made sure to follow the transfer course sheets for required courses, being 2 specific math courses and 2 core life and physical science courses. For my first semester, I registered for one of the math courses and one of the core life and physical science courses offered at my institution. I received an A in the math course and a B in the science course. I also registered for the other math and science course for this current spring semester and am almost finished with them.

On my transfer audit, the first science course I took is marked as "transfer by title only" with no equivalent course at A&M. I read mostly that, with a transfer status like this on a course, it typically means you won't get credit for it other than the hours applied toward an elective or something.

With this information in mind, I am wondering if A&M counted this course as credit applied towards my core science. Although A&M doesn't have an equivalent course, it is an approved core curriculum course at my institution. I read online that core courses are required to be transferred for their perspective component area regardless of the offerings at either institution. Can someone tell me if this is true and if I will be credited for the science credit in this area?

I worry because I am very interested in attending A&M. The level of education that is offered is amazing and I want to be apart of it so bad. I feel like I am overthinking this whole situation but I speculate it may not be considered credit towards my science because a few of my friends applied to TCMG as well but didn't get decisions until a month later. They said that they were actually reviewed by the college of engineering where as in my case I was immediately denied without review right after I got my audit.

I really appreciate anyone's input on my situation and what I should do about it. I am trying to get this cleared up ASAP, because if my science credit wasn't actually accounted for but it can be, then I want to fix it before everyone starts submitting spring grades as I feel they are expecting another science from me and will only deny me if they don't see it.

My son transferred from WTAMU several years ago. He was a PSA kid, so had the transfer sheet you are talking about that was shared with him by an advisor. He was told these courses on the sheet had to be completed with a certain grade plus whatever extra courses he chose to take to hit the minimum number of hours. Also of note, Dual Credit couldn't count towards those minimum number of hours, although they counted in the GPA. His Geology course he took didn't have a course equivalent at A&M but his advisor told him he'd still get the credit for the course as one of his core sciences, which he did. I'd definitely talk to a advisor at both your current institution and A&M. Are you at a system school?

One thing to note is that most of the course equivalency sheets show a minimum number of hours required to transfer on them and they are very strict about that number. You'll have that number after the spring semester.

They always wait for spring grades to see if you hit the grades for those math and Science classes and that you pass all the other hours.

Are you sure you weren't automatically denied, with the chance to submit spring grades and be reevaluated, because at the moment you don't have the minimum of 24 credit hours completed?

Regardless, I strongly encourage you to reach out to an Admissions advisor and an advisor from your hopeful major. They are going to have far better information for you than random people on a message board.

Hello! First, I want to thank you for taking the time to reply to my situation. I do believe that I was automatically denied due to having less than 24 hours of coursework completed at the time of the application. I was expecting the spring grade request, but I thought that the letter was a postponement of the decision by the college you applied. I guess it really does not make much of a difference either way. At the moment, I am just worried that my other core science credit didn't transfer. I did find a more extensive transfer page on TAMUs website that mentioned core credit needed to be noted on your transcript or else TAMU would not know the difference between it being any random course or an actual core course. Now I think it could possibly be due to the fact my school may have not noted which courses were core courses. I appreciate your advice on reaching out to an Admissions or ETID advisor. I have already emailed AgAC@tamu.edu and admissions@tamu.edu and I am awaiting responses. I did not email any one specific advisor, but I did have a question about that. Would you recommend calling the Aggieland Admissions Center to get started? The reason why I posted my concerns here was to see if anyone else had a similar thing happen to them, and if so, provide input. I am also going to reach out to my school and double-check to see if my transcript included the core course complete section. Please let me know about that advisement question, and again, I thank you for your reply to my concerns.

Hello, I want to thank you for taking the time to reply to me! Unfortunately, I am not enrolled in any A&M transfer programs or an A&M system school. I appreciate your note about dual credit. Luckily I don't have any dual credits to apply toward my degree, so I should be set in that area! I am so glad that you mention your son also had a similar situation as me. It makes me feel more comfortable that his credit was accepted. I do understand the university minimum 2.5 GPA and 24 hours of coursework to be considered, as well as the request for spring grades if these criteria were not met at the time of the application. I did receive the spring grades request letter, but I was expecting a letter that said I was reviewed by the College of Engineering and that they would like to postpone my decision until spring grades are sent in. I wasn't aware that there were two different decision types for spring grade requests, that's why I started to worry upon also seeing my core environmental science class wouldn't transfer as an equivalent course on my transfer audit report. I have contacted AgAC@tamu.edu and admissions@tamu.edu, but I sent both emails on Friday, one being after business hours. They will probably respond sometime Monday or Tuesday I hope. I will probably call the TAMU Admissions Office on Monday as well. Once again, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to me. I will let you know how it goes.

This happens all the time to transfer students. Sometimes you have to go out of your way to request a substitution if you can show the course material is substantively similar to the required course on your degree plan. When I transferred to A&M I had to get 3 or 4 substitutions. I will be completing my Bachelor of Music degree at Sam Houston State in the Fall and there are at least 4 or 5 courses from my AA degree in music that have to be substituted, even though they were the exact same classes available and required at Sam.

A lot of times I think it comes down to the school not wanting to give you the credit unless they can prove it was taught they way they like it to be taught.
