Your academic departments will make the decision. When they notify Admissions, we will update your AIS page. Hopefully you will hear soon!

EquiSally said she was an animal science major, but her application is now being reviewed as a zoology major. Does that mean that the animal science admits are filled up at this point. My daughter's still says animal science as her first choice of major and that her application is still under review.

Freshmen and transfer applications are handled in two different ways. For transfers, choice of major can change on AIS as each academic department reviews the applicant. For freshmen, you generally are admitted to the university first and then we look to see if your choice of major is still available. An exception beginning this year with Engineering is that they are reviewing all freshmen applications.

TAMUAdmissions - I wonder if you could provide some feedback. My son applied in late October. He is a review admit and we're still waiting. Admissions assigned him to the 2nd quartile, however there are only 72 kids in his class at a very competitive private college prep school. His GPA and test scores appear to be higher than several other review admits that have already been accepted. I can only think his assigned ranking is hurting him. Does Admissions consider their class size and GPA when assigning a rank?

His Howdy tabs changed for a few days in December but then reverted back and no movement since then. If his assigned ranking is what ultimately prevents him from getting admitted I'm going to feel horrible as a parent. I'm confident he would have been in the top quarter, maybe even 10%, had he attended one of the local high schools.

As part of the holistic review, we evaluate class rank, test scores and everything else submitted with his application - outside activities, leadership, employment, the essays, etc. As a result, there is not a minimum GPA or minimum test scores. Class rank is but one factor as mentioned above. When a school chooses not to rank, we assign a rank based on reported GPA.

He may be reviewed multiple times before a decision is made. Review admits may hear anytime between now and March.

Your son can speak with an admissions counselor at 979-458-0950.

Interesting suggestion by TAMU admissions to speak to counselor. Like Aggiepc as a parent you start question whether your child should have challenged themselves less and not go to college prep type school if A&M was their first choice. Mine was top 25 but still is waiting like so many others. Would have been easy top 10 at district school. Should have retaken the ACT to get the 1 point for academic admit to save herself the anxiety.Lesson learned. I would actually suggest to future students and parents to apply in October and take test required to become auto admit if needed. An October submission will chop a couple months of the wait and still give plenty of time to get everything in. The wait is tough as it is.

To TAMU admissions, is there much to gain in speaking to a counselor? Seems like waiting is all anyone can do at this point.

Gig'em and good luck to all those still waiting in review.

A counselor would have a good idea of how competitive a specific applicant is. At this point, it is a waiting game.

Has anyone else got admitted recently? Our son is anxiously (actually I'm probably more anxious!) waiting to hear his admission decision. We are out of state homeschooler, so there's no 10% admit. He has 3.96 unweighted GPA and got 33 ACT, with 36 on English and Science and 33 on Reading. but no academic admit because he got 26 on math. He wants to study history and join the corps (we did go to SNWC). He doesn't have much extracurriculars except for fencing for 6 years and having selected to TN Governor's school.

I can tell you with a high degree of probability. I've worked with a number of home schoolers and have successfully gotten many of them into TAMU.

You can locate my contact info in my profile.

thanks! we are out of state on top of being homeschooled, so we feel disadvantaged, but he really wants to be in the Corps. We did drive down to take him to SNWC in November. He has taken 5 dual enrollment classes at local colleges. any of that help?

We look for a diverse class of all types so being home schooled and/or out of state is not a disadvantage. We evaluate class rank (not specifically GPA), test scores and everything else submitted with your application - outside activities, leadership, employment, the essays, etc.

@TAMUAdmissions thank you for your answer! we probably should have looked at his essays, but I didn't want it to sound like it was written by a "46 year old lawyer" as one of the recruitment officers from an Ivy league school said. lol. Then again, his English ACT was 36 and English is my second language, so it was probably just as well I didn't go over it with him. ;-)

TAMUAdmissions,

My daughter (who is perfect for A&M) has applied and is waiting. Her High School principal offered to write a letter of recommendation when he inquired about her acceptance status.

Can such a letter be "added" to her application? Would it matter?

Thanks.

Spoke with A&M counselor, not much help truly. Asked how competitive daughter's application was, answer was "application is in review and we are trying to let everyone know by February 14." ... Thanks ??

All of this for narrowly missing academic admit. I understand that a great many of us are former students and it's tough. What baffles me is that I am serve as faculty in one of the professional schools. I would at least hope that a university would place some value in being a child of faculty if otherwise the student is very well qualified.

Finished up with my A&M students today and I wonder what my university is doing. God luck to all ... still waiting.

Austin Ag,

Unfortunately, it is too late to add information for a freshman's application for fall. We are only able to use information received by the deadline.

Texaghopeful,

We are still reviewing some freshmen applications for all types of decisions. Applicants can be reviewed multiple times before a decision is made (comparing you to other applicants who have not heard yet). As part of a holistic review process, we consider all the items you listed. You can call an admissions counselor at 979-458-0950.

I checked the box on apply texas for sending an electronic resume, which I uploaded to howdy. I left the resume on apply texas blank because i was uploading my own and filled out the part where it asked about volunteer service because it did not have that checkbox. Will all of my stuff that i sent in be considered? Thanks for your previous response also!

What is the timing on Transfer applicant decisions that applied on January 1st? Do they wait until the application window closes and review all applicants at one time or are they reviewing throughout the timeframe?

Regarding the freshman question, we look at all information received by the deadline to apply.

Regarding the timing of transfer decisions, it is difficult to say when applicants will hear a decision because each academic department will be making the decision. Even within a department, they may not make all the decisions at once. When they do notify Admissions, we will update your AIS page. It is often several months. They don't know all your competition until the deadline to apply has passed.

TAMUAdmissions - Our daughter applied in November with her first choice major of Business and her second as Recreation, Parks and Tourism. Since submitting her application, she has met with an advisor and students in Rec and Parks and would like to changer her first choice to Rec and Parks. At this point in the application process is that an option, or is she best leaving her application as is?

Thanks

Students are admitted to the university and then to their major. Choice of major does not have any impact on their admission decision into the university.

Students who wish to change may do so at their New Student Conference unless they are trying to move into an impacted major (Business, Engineering, and Architecture).
TAMUAdmissions

As mentioned above, choice of major does not affect whether you are admitted for freshmen. Business is full now so if admitted you would get Parks and Recreation anyway. So there is no need to change at this point.

TAMUAdmissions - please, what can you tell me about the criteria used to determine that an applicant gets an offer of Blinn Team, Gateway or PSA? I've called the Office of Admissions and asked this question and was basically told, "Don't ask to pull back the curtain on the Great and Powerful Oz." From the outside attempting to look in - and knowing students who fall into each of the three categories - it all appears very random and very secretive.

We evaluate class rank (not specifically GPA), test scores and everything else submitted with your application - outside activities, leadership, employment, the essays, etc. Every student is different. As part of a holistic review, we consider all the above factors. We also consider how much space is left for each type of offer and which program we believe offers the greatest chance of student success.

Yup. If she is interested in Arizona State they also print degrees these days so either should be a great school for her.
