How long do you want to ignore this user?
I recently got Academically Suspended from Mays Business School and Texas A&M.
I was a University Studies Business major in Mays.
I somewhat struggled through school at Mays in part because of the difficulty of the courses but also due to a lack of effort. I also suffer from fatigue and some memory issues due to having Multiple Sclerosis.
That set aside, A&M and disability services were always willing to assist me so my condition is no excuse.

I was in my final 16 hours this past spring, my GPA going into the semester was slightly above a 2.0 and my grades did not end up being good. Its almost as if I thought I did not have to try my last semester and I would get handed a degree.
I was academically suspended from the university and my first appeal was denied.
I already regret my mistake. I have spent 4 years at A&M and the Aggie spirit is in my blood now, I cant even begin to imagine graduating from somewhere else, especially as close as I am.

I know I am dealing with the consequences of my own actions, and getting the suspension has already changed my mindset. Im willing to do whatever it takes to finish up my last hours at A&M.

My academic advisor has been vague about my options.

Can anyone provide some guidance/advice?

I thank you in advance for any help!

I know a few people that were in your situation. They ended up having to spend a few years in the real world before going back. It made them grow up and realize the value of a degree

Also, were you not given a semester of scholastic probation?

I wasn't. I think its either in Mays or University Studies policy that there is no probation period given.

That sucks. Thought you always got probation first.

You get probation if you SAP is low, but you have the uncompleted hours to remain on campus to complete them. You can be a Freshman or Sophomore and fail out with no probation period if you completely bomb a course. IIRC, an A was 4 points, a B was 3, a C was 1, and D was -2 and and F was -5. If you were -10 or lower in a semester (regardless of prior performance), then instead of probation, you will get dismissed.

The probation situation changes dramatically for upperclassmen. Once you are a senior, academic probation isn't really much of an option as it would require the university to keep you enrolled (the state loses money per student on a class basis), and you are occupying a place that another student with satisfactory SAP would have the opportunity to place.

If you want a straight shooter on the issue, call Dr. Marty Loudder:

I think the main issue that you have is Disability Services already made accommodations which would be the highlight of your request.

IF I WAS YOU, I'd be on the phone with Kristi Orr, and have her contact Dr. Loudder or someone else in the business school.

I assume you know Dr. Orr from being in DAS. If not, I can see if she is in the office today. I know Dr. Loudder is in. If noting else, try and talk to the department head for your program. Dr. Sorescu is great, Dr. Jones is great, and Dr. Benjamin is amazing as well.

Another person to reach out to given the dynamics of the situation is Professor Martindale. He is a long string member of the faculty, and a great "fire stater". If you want more help, PM me. I'm just thinking off the top of my head at 4:30 AM my time for ya.

From EXPERIENCE....IF your original appeal is denied, go to Disability Services and see what strings Kristi can pull. If it is a departmental issue, usually she can get an exception given the DAS power base on campus.

If DAS can't solve it, then the department head is your best shot.

With all of this said, don't do stupid .... in the future, and you won't have this problem. NOTHING IN LIFE IS HANDED TO YOU.

I just wanted to say good job for owning the problem! I have MS and the fatigue/ cognitive fog can be awful no matter the accommodations so I admire you for pushing on. I especially appreciate that you're recognizing your part aside from MS and ready to make a change. Sound like exactly who we want in our Aggie family. Praying you get another chance!
