Need Advice: Aggie Ring

How long do you want to ignore this user?
So, I was set to have 92 hours after this semester, until now when it looks like I will fail one of my three hour classes. This leaves me with only 89 hours, where it takes 90 to get my ring. (There is still a possibility I get a D in the class, giving me 92 hours)

I REALLLLY want my ring in April, and have been looking forward to that day for four years. I have assumed that my best bet is to try and take a winter minimester class and hope my credits transfer by Feb 8 (Audit is due). It doesn't look like A&M offers winter courses, and the one class I was hoping to take online isn't offered anywhere in Texas(ARTS 1304-its a double counter for CVEN).

So, I guess what I'm hoping for is advice as to if there are any good internet courses to take over the break. Has this problem happened to anyone else here, and what was your course of action?

Thanks

This may sound harsh, but if you wanted it bad enough you would have spent more time in the library and professors office. Take it as a lessoned learned and get it next fall.

Thanks for the reply, and I knew someone would say that.

I actually went into his office a few times and have spent countless hours in evans working through problems that weren't assigned on his HW's. I'm doing well in all of my other civil classes this semester, but I can't quite figure this one out. Believe me, its not because of a lack of effort.

Anyways, again thanks for the response, but unfortunately it doesn't help me and my current situation.

I have a couple of questions...

1. Did you know before Q-drop deadline that you would probably fail this class?

2. If you did, did you only try to tough it out in order to get your ring?

At the Q-drop deadline I was doing well on the quizzes and HW but had received a 54 on the first exam. We had just taken our second of three exams (not including the final). I knew I was not going to score well on the exam, but didn't know how bad it was until after the deadline.

I actually thought that I had more credit hours than I did. I thought that I would have 95 after the Fall semester, so I never really gave much thought to sticking it out just for my ring.

Well, I would look to see what non-major classes are left on your degree plan and pray that they're offered at another college somewhere else over the winter.

http://www.tccns.org/tccns/default.asp?DB=2006&mode=Compare

That allows you to compare institutions. You select Texas A&M and another college in Texas to see if they have courses that will transfer over. If they do, you have to go to see your advisor to make sure that they WILL transfer. You may have to apply to some community college near wherever you live (if the deadline for doing so hasn't already past).

That's the only other thing I can think of. Otherwise, if A&M doesn't offer winter-mester courses and you can't take any online, I think you're S.O.L.

Good luck.

If you have a general elective to take, I would think there would be SOMETHING you can take online somewhere over the break.

Otherwise, I guess I wouldn't let it bother you that much. You'll have that ring the rest of your life.

Plus, once you take the class, it still has to be transferred in before the given date (assuming you have completed the required on campus hours with the required cumulative GPA). If you finish the class over the mini-mester outside of A&M and they bundle and package everything together CORRECTLY and send the information at the correct time, the earliest A&M would get in to begin processing it would be the 19th of Jan. More than likely, the other university will not begin to process the request until the 10a semester begins. Therefore, That gives them ~ 2 weeks 19th-5th. My experience with those departments tells me not to consider that a given. Depending upon the college you use to transfer the credit, we have had students transcripts etc take weeks if not easily a month to clear that portion of the process. Not to mention I would think another ring audit would be necessary. Not sure if those are due beofre of after the ring deadline or how long they take.

That's what I hoped you'd say. Although it is an awesome feeling to receive your ring, it should never be put before your grades.

Good luck.

Are there any courses you can CLEP out of over winter break that you don't already have credit for? I think one of my roommates got her ring really early by doing this. I could be wrong though. Good luck!

failing doesn't matter as long as you have above a 2.0 GPR after.

take a CLEP test.

I knew I was going to fail a class the semester before I ordered my ring, so I q-dropped it. it dropped me to 93 hours (this was back when you needed 95 hours to get your ring) for that semester. so I took a CLEP test--HIST 101, actually. I studied in the library from a history textbook for a few hours the morning of the test, then went in an took it. super easy. this put me up to 96 hours total after that fall, so I was able to order my ring.

I know how you feel being one hour short. I had to q-drop a class that put me one hour short. I had also finished all my general electives. It worked out to get it that next semester. Just annoying that entire semester.

Thanks for the responses, but I was able to get a D in the class, so it looks like I'll be getting my ring after all!

Thanks and gig'em
