Whats the difference? I would assume 107 would be more difficult, but my friend who is in chemical engineering has to take 101 and not 107. I'm in ID and I have to take 107.
I was just wondering what the difference was between the two.

I took CHEM 107 when I was there and it was a mix of chem 101 and 102 - also known as chemistry for engineers.

I took the class via the internet (bad idea - find a class you can actually go to) with Dr. Brown.

101 and 102 is for people with "CHEM" somewhere in the title of their degree.

107 is for others who need a science credit for their degrees.

The 101/102 just covers more things in depth. What you do in 101 is about 2/3 of 107 and then 102 accounts for part of 107. There is more to 102 (IIRC, been a while).

Uhh yeah.. I wouldn't say 107 is easier. 101/102 is for the non-engineering majors (biology, etc). 107 is usually what engineers are required to take. Like others have said, it's not as in-depth and doesn't cover as much material as 101/102.

I miss watching Dr. Brown on the local station in B/CS. I never had his class but I could watch his lecture for hours and crack up...

Im in chem 101 to get a general science credit. Im a finance major. Dumb idea, i should have done geology.

107 was 2 courses in one but they were not as in depth since a lot of material was covered. Courses being online or taped could be watched over and over if you wanted. I got an A in this class ohyeah.

I took CHEM 107 via telecourse, which means that all the lectures were online and on TV. I wouldn't necessarily recommened this route, but I also wouldn't highly advise against it.

By taking it telecourse, it really freed up my day-time schedule to take other classes/do whatever I wanted. I never watched a lecture after the first test, and just did the online homework and went to A+ for tutoring. The class was tough for me to get an A in because the lab portion of the class really pulled down my grade though.

107 is a watered down version of gen chem for engineers who don't have a real need for more in depth coursework in chemistry.

ChemE's take 101 and 102 because they then go on to take a variety of other chem courses and they need the foundation to do so.

Gen chem in general is easy; 107 is even easier. If you want really easy, there is always 106.

not true. the chemistry majors take 103/104. different curriculum, less of the basic chemistry, and more in depth. at least that's how it was for me back in 96
