Started in Fall '04. Here's what got me into A&M for full admission, but got me into t.u.'s summer class for general science.

-1210 SAT
-4.2 or 4.3ish out 5.0ish HS GPA (cannot remember anymore)
-a LOT of extra curricular activities
-Eagle Scout (I think this really helped)

Got fully admitted as an AERO and will graduate this May as one. I know people with better GPA/SAT but got rejected. I think it was my extra curricular activities.

I got in (not automatic) with an 1100something SAT, a 29 on the ACT (what I think got me in), and just inside the top 25% of my HS graduating class. I can't remember what my HS GPA was, maybe like a 5.8 on a 7 point scale.

I was barely top 25% (24.8% or something when I graduated at the time).

By the time I graduated HS, I was out of the top 25%. Nevertheless, I had a 1200 SAT (650 Math) and got into Texas A&M in February 2007. I finished my app by mid-November 2006 I believe.

I did have a meeting with the A&M advisor of PETE and sent him an e-mail to tell him I applied. Not sure if that helped but I think it did.

So OP had better qualifications than I did and didn't get in. My roommate was top 10% in SA and had like a 21 ACT which was WAY below average for engineers. He still graduated with an engineering degree though.

Don't feel too bad y'all. I moved to Tx my junior year of HS from Az where we didn't have AP classes.
I got wait listed for BIMS with a 4.3/5 GPA and 1425/1600 SAT. Explain that one...
Only thing I could figure was top 10%. When I applied I was around 80/700 graduated 68/700. But as said before doesn't matter now. Graduate in December with a 3.6. And already have 4 med school interviews set up over the next 2 months.

Did nothing in HS, just about top 35%. Did well enough on SAT to get in (1390/1600).

Graduated with the lowest GPA of my class(Pretty much straight C's) on the way out, but no major hiccups.

Admitted after Jr. year under early commitment/qualification program. It's been a few years (or more) so I don't remember the precise name.

Can someone explain why taking AP courses helps your GPA? I didn't go to high school in Texas, but a couple when I was in hs. Don't think it did anything for my GPA though. Just looked good on my application...

My school calculated GPA on a 100 Point Scale

AP Classes would get at 1.21 Factor
Honors Classes would get a 1.1 Factor
Everything else gets a 1.0 (or no factor)

If my schedule was the following

History AP
English AP
Calculus AP
Physical Education
Chemistry Honors
Health
Music

And I made 100's in all of them

History AP = 100*1.21 = 121
English AP = 100*1.21 = 121
Calculus AP = 100*1.21 = 121
Physical Education = 100*1.0 = 100
Chemistry Honors = 100*1.1 = 110
Health = 100*1.0= 100
Music = 100*1.0= 100

Add them up and divide by the number of classes
773 Points / 7 Classes = 110.43 GPA

It doesn't really matter what your GPA is in the end since colleges care about your class rank since every high school has a different system. The extra weight given to the AP classes can help you overtake another student who only takes Honors level courses though

In my school, regular classes were graded on a 4 pt gpa scale. Pre-ap were on a 5 point and AP were on a 6 point scale.

The valedictorian had a gpa of over 5 on a 4 point scale. So, unless you took all AP classes, you couldn't even be ranked in the top 20%.
