In case any of yall are interested, here is A&M's pass rate of the CPA exam so far this year as compared to the other schools in Texas. If you notice, A&M has the highest percentage of all schools who had more than 5 people take the exam. For reference, the national average is something around 43% or so.

My roommate is about to sweep the CPA. He has passed 3 of the 4 tests so far with only one left.

Yea, but their PPA program is consistently one of the best in the country.

I honestly can't see why theirs is consistently ranked #1. Their program is quite simple: audit or tax. A&M has had a MIS track since the early 90s and from what I've heard from people at different firms during recruiting is that they're gonna start putting pressure on Texas to add a MIS track since that area of expertise is in such high demand. In other words, that would be THEM following OUR lead. Also if you look at placement, A&M has had more post grad interns go to the FASB out of college (basically the board that sets the standards for US accounting) than ANY other college. And that says a lot because they are VERY selective. Of the Big 4, A&M is usually in the top 3 universities that place employees into the firms. Not to mention we have a higher CPA pass rate with almost twice as many people taking it. The only thing I can think of is maybe they are a bit more selective (A&M's program is huge - but just about everyone ends up getting a job so it's not unnecessarily big) and their program has been around a bit longer than ours. In just about any area of measurability though, we have them beat.

At the end of the day, public accounting sucks. You work too many hours.

Please expand upon this. Are you trying to say ours isn't? They are number one, but we are number six. The prestige may be different, but in practicality, the difference in education quality is almost zero. Add to that A&M and BYU go back and forth every year to be the number one source school for the Big 4 accounting firms, and I would say we are doing okay.

When A&M and UT ppl hit the accounting world, you realize there is no difference in the quality of people both schools put out.

UT does a clean sweep in Accounting. They are the best, dont kid yourself. That has nothing to do with how good we are though. In terms of volume of people put out to Big 4 I think it is us and BYU that take the trophy on that each year if I recall. Our program is great and continues to climb. #6 at last count according to the Public Account Report I think.

Our people mostly fill the Texas jobs, and the UT people tend to go a lot more into national jobs outside of Texas to start from what I understand. The Aggie network is big and strong in public accounting though, make no doubt about it.

I know KPMG recruits more people from BYU than anywhere else, followed by A&M.

very true. they are consistently ranked high and receive more attention from other industries besides public accounting (consulting, ib, etc), but those have to do more with the fact that texas' mpa program is older and texas-mccombs is a very strong brand name in the business world.
