Howdy,

I'm seriously considering coming to A&M as an economics major and I will be junior level when I come. I'm probably going to take only 12 or 13 hours a semester so I can focus on my grades. What I'm trying to do is come up with a course schedule for the next four semesters (starting next fall) and I want to combine easy classes with hard classes so I don't have a semester of just hard classes.

Here's what I got so far. I need some input on the difficulty (amount of time needed to study to make good grades) of these econ classes. I appreciate it!

ECON 311 Money and Banking
ECON 323 Microeconomic Theory
FINC 309/409 Survey of Finance Principles
Phil 240 Introduction to Logic

Now I know that 323 and 309 won't be cakewalks. Is it a good idea to take 311 in the same semester? I'm aware that 240 won't take up too much time.

ECON 425 The Organization of Industry
ECON 452 International Trade Theory and Policy
STAT 303 Statistical Methods
MKTG 309 Introduction to Marketing

I'm aware of the coursework in 303, but what about 425 and 452?

ECON 442 Personnel Economics
ECON 445 Financial Economics
ECMT 463 Introduction to Econometrics
MGMT 309/409 Survey of Management

Science Core
ECON 410 Microeconomic Theory
ECON 426 Antitrust & Regulation
LDEV 467 Land Development

If any of you have any experience with any of these classes, please feel free to pipe up. Thank you!

ECON 452 was an easy A with Trupkin, though I hear other profs make it easy too.

ECON 311 isnt that hard with Edwardson

ECON 425&323 can be insanely hard unless you get Dr. Maness. In fact, try to get him for any class he teaches. Amazing prof.

ECON 410. Get Hernandez-Verme. DO NOT get Hwang.

ECMT will make you want to kill yourself.

Econ is a breeze for the most part as most of the material overlaps. Word of caution however, do not under any circumstances take developmental economics with the female Allen. She holds vendettas against students for no logical reason.

Econ 311 is a good class but can be deceptively hard. You really need to know that stuff backwards, forward, as well as sideways to get an A.

ECON 311 Money and Banking

-One of my favorite Econ classes. Edwardson is awesome. Just make sure that you, as stated earlier, know the material backwards and forwards.
ECON 323 Microeconomic Theory-Not terribly tough, but it's really difficult to get an A. I had Tian and could barely understand anything he said. I really don't feel like I actually learned anything. Somehow I got an 84, 79, 75 and ended up with a B in the class.
FINC 309/409 Survey of Finance Principles
-Haven't taken it but I heard it's really difficult.

Phil 240 Introduction to Logic
-I'm taking this class in the Spring.

323, didn't really take up too much time but maybe that's why I got a B.

Marketing 309
- I took this in the Summer with Dewald and this was an Easy A. I've heard he isnt' teaching this anymore though, and now it's not quite so effortless.

You'll probaly have to end up taking Econ 330 (Economies of LDC) that class is another where it's tough to get an A but with some work a B isn't too difficult.

ECON 442 Personnel Economics
ECMT 463 Introduction to Econometrics
ECON 410 Microeconomic Theory

I took all of these and they weren't too hard. ECMT 463 killed a lot of people, so pay attention in STAT 303. It is probably the hardest ECON class you'll take, although I don't agree with that.

For 442, if Deere is teaching it, take it with him. His tests are pretty difficult and require a blue book, but he's a great prof that knows his stuff. I maybe be confusing this class with Economics of Labor, though. I enjoyed both. One was with Deere and one with Nielson. Both excellent profs.

311 was interesting and Edwardson is an awesome prof. Just go to class and take notes and you'll be fine.

May I also suggest Economic Development, Resource Scarcity and Game Theory. I enjoyed these a lot. Might want to give them a look.

I heard Game Theory was unbelivably hard.
