Doesn't look good from that video. Major munitions explosion / mishap?

Commentary on local news made it sound like a grass/ wild fire does onto the base.

I have worked with the Canadian military. Good dudes from my experience working with EOD. Hopefully no US EOD folks were there.

One comment from the X post -

200 % cover story

Something malicious went down but they are not able to state that to the public. US follows the same protocol.

When Russia, China, Iran pull off successful sabotages and they have pulled off a lot in recent years on US soil, the real story is never published

Amazing how many people WANT it to be something more than an accident.

Pretty sad actually, I read 50-100 seriously injured (severe burns), multiple fatalities. Of course I have no idea if true but apparently related to an HE (high explosive) round being fired and somehow triggering a gas well fire that blew up very quickly. I highly doubt the medical facilities there locally have the equivalent of a level 2 burn trauma unit capable of handling those figures.

As much as I have denigrated Carney/Canada recently, wouldn't wish that on anyone let alone what's left of their military.

I've worked around a lot of gas wells in my former career. They were very well marked, known, and apparent. That has to be some really crazy training exercise go wrong to get anywhere near it.

Was there a fireworks warehouse on the next property over that they were staying away from?

I think it's a believable story. Canada degraded itself mightily under Trudeau and now Carney.

I bet this was simply negligence and incompetence.

Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me if this is cover story either but it's equally plausible it's just Canada failing.

Edit: And praying for all of these soldiers. Their country has generally failed them in the last several years.

Accidents happen. When ammunition is involved, the consequences can prove catastrophic.

This guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about but perhaps those with experience could chime in on the plausibility of this happening. Just a perfect storm of things going wrong?

What is "dolphining" and why is there a gas well anywhere near live explosives?

there's a major difference between what people want and what people conjecture as to what possibly could've happened. You're argument is facetious.
Look at the orators in our republics; as long as they are poor, both state and people can only praise their uprightness; but once they are fattened on the public funds, they conceive a hatred for justice, plan intrigues against the people and attack the democracy.

Canadian news reported that the nearby hospital was completely overwhelmed and the nearest big city (Edmonton, maybe?) was taking in wounded.
The report said there seemed to be more patients than even the big city had capacity for.

CBC is saying 4 dead, and "dozens" injured.

Of course that can easily change.

There is a CBC live stream running if one wants to watch.

This lines up with the tweet above...

Quote:

I'm told a Carl G was being fired at a target some 300 metres away from a static cement bay using the standing position. The safety officer stands about 18" away in a cement bay observing every action taken by the loader & gunner. This is very basic infantry training & carried out at least annually.

In this case a high explosive (HE) round was being fired.

Apparently shortly after the HE round was fired it malfunctioned & dove at full speed into the ground striking either a buried natural gas wellhead or pipeline which exploded. There were casualties at this range caused by the blast wave.

Simultaneously there were some 150 soldiers training in fighting in built up areas (FIBUA or Urban Warfare) using blank ammo or just running through the basic drills using dry fire. No live ammunition, no explosives of any type, certainly no live indirect fire. There were 3 wooden structures being used & all three were completely destroyed by the blast. A significant number of casualties occurred here.

From that post:

"At this point, it appears that this series of incidents began with a round malfunctioning & doing damage that never could have been imagined let alone predicted or prevented. "

Having a gas well or pipeline under/near a live fire range is pretty shockingly negligent if that's actually what happened.

This. Particularly one that fires HEAP rounds. Stunning negligence if true.

Goodness! In terms of a Swiss cheese model, talk about a layer that could have been a brick wall! Why oh why would this be on a live fire range?!?! Hell even inside the range safety buffer???
