I think Open Carry just gets rid of concerns people had with semi-visible guns under presumed concealed carry requirements.

Do SSRIs cause people to commit murder?
Or are severely depressed people more likely to commit murder and take antidepressants.

We've spent plenty of time in St. Charles for a variety of maladies and can't say enough good about the doctors/surgeons there. Also, the Ronal McDonald house across the parking lot was fantastic when we needed it.

Depressed people are far more likely to hurt themselves and aren't particularly prone to murdering anybody. The SSRI's that are often cited as a contributor to these mass killings are effective at treating depression, but it's unfair because these murderers are being misdiagnosed with depression as the primary mental health issue and so they're being treated with the wrong medication. Psychiatrists & psychologists often treat patients with mental illness that can't be effectively treated with existing meds (personality disorders, psychopaths, sociopaths, etc.), but have concurrent depression because they're mentally ill and so they're prescribed the SSRI's in hopes of improving their day to day functioning.
TLDR - mentally ill murderers are not committing these crimes because of the SSRI's, but rather because of the underlying mental illness that's contributing to their depression that the SSRI's are attempting to treat

Twisted teen gunman John J. Griffin II has been pictured for the first time glaring menacingly at the camera since he unleashed a deadly mass shooting at an Oregon elementary school.
Griffin, 16, is seen in the eerie photo posted on Facebook by his mother, Shauntai May Nickerson, on Sept. 10 just over a month before he killed three students, ages 5, 8, and 11, and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School on Thursday.
<snip>
There, the young gunman stormed toward the special education classroom, where he was once a student.
He was fatally shot by hero dad, Kaylub Giamanco, who saw Griffin enter the building with a gun while driving home for his lunch break.
<snip>
The mother and son also appeared in a 2020 article about students in the Bend-La Pine School District's NEST program a specialized program for students experiencing intensive behavioral and social skills challenges returning to the classroom after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nickerson told KTVZ21 at the time that her 10-year-old son, whom she referred to by the first name "Griffin," was struggling with learning from home.
"I think it will be great for Griffin, because I am not certified teaching a special needs student," Nickerson told the outlet. "And I think it will be great for my son to get the help that he needs from the skilled teachers that he needs to get it from."

I've seen comments people posted that why did hero gunman have to shoot if he was already down.

I live about 100 miles from Bend... saw this story after picking up my kid from preschool today.
First time one of these stories has hit close to home since my kid has started school... I'm going to have to figure out what hoops I need to jump through for a CCL here...
Can't put my self in the shoes of anyone here...
How does a 16yo get so ****ed in the head that they target an elementary school.
Live in Portland, but spend a ton of time in Bend seeing friends, skiing and bike racing. Goal is to move there eventually.
Per buddy who has a Kinder in town. 5, 8 and 11 + a teacher. Possible a special-ed class room, but not sure. Hero saw the guy shoot at a car then walk inside. He followed.
Poor babies.
Confirmed it was the special-ed classroom. 7 year old was in a wheel chair.
Someone started a donation page for the 5 year old's family: https://www.gofundme.com/f/coming-together-for-the-summer-family
Bud feeding me info is my touring partner. He's a general surgeon at St. Charles but didn't see any of the victims. Bend is a big small town. Transplants all move there for hobbies and it's pretty tight knit.
Hit my wife pretty hard even though we don't live there. Bend is our safe happy place. Our escape from Portland's nonsense.
We're at SunRiver for Thanksgiving week for Bach opening. Looking forward to getting back to Central OR.
Last update, then I'm out.

Special K teacher wrestled the shooter in the classroom until hero dad showed up. Even more eff'ing impressive.
Keep the shooter in obscurity. I hate the fascination with the first to find the photo here. Homegirl took on an armed dude with a shotgun.
Oh, I said last update. My apologies.
Wife is a NP at OHSU and on shift. They just received the 7 year old wheel chair kid here at her hospital in Portland. He was shot in the face, but survived. Transferred here for treatment. Eff this.

The prevalence of SSRI's is alarming though. Had my annual a few weeks ago and mentioned that the ringing in my ears was recently, dramatically worse on one side. First recommendation was to see an ENT. Good advice. Second, almost immediate recommendation, start SSRI. I am hunting for a new GP.
