US billionaires hold approximately $8.4 Trillion in wealth, most of that unrealized.

The US is now over $40 Trillion in debt.

If we confiscated every penny of wealth from Billionaires we would be able to pay off less than 25% of our debt.

If we confiscated that wealth, it would do nothing to correct our annual deficits.

Democrats tell us all our problems would be solved if Billionaires paid their fair share. If they paid their fair share, government could spend even more! More freebies for the public

Part of it is a failure in education. The republicans and others do an awful job of showing this in ads, commercials, debates, etc. This should be shouted on repeat daily.

The biggest lunacy about this is it would completely collapse the economy and put millions out of work. Socialists act like Billionaires are Scrooge McDuck jumping into piles of cash they keep in their basement. The reality is it is tied up in equities, bonds, and most of all ownership of companies. Make it liquid and first off it loses much of it's value because you are also making it so there are no buyers (except maybe the government or foreign powers) and most of the people at those companies get laid off.

It's staggering how stupid some people are. When you look at Elon or Bezos or Walton or Gates or Dell they have created massive amounts of wealth and jobs for people that the government never could and they did so by providing products and services that people wanted. The other reality that in the US we don't have the inheritance laws they do in Europe that make charity difficult to leave your money to. In the US most Billionaires end up giving away much of what they have earned eventually. Virtually every T20 Private school is named for a capitalist that gave them the money (Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt, Carnegie Mellon, Rice, on and on....). In the end the people end up benefitting from charity or the tax revenue from the profits and the companies provide jobs and wealth.

It would be far more impactful if the 50% of Americans who don't pay any taxes had to pay at least a little bit of taxes. People that have no skin in the game are way more likely to vote for more taxation, especially with the promise of a pittance of it going towards more social programs.

We have a spend problem not an income problem and everyone paying taxes would put some downward pressure on spending. Right now, the takers outnumber the payers, so taxation is going nowhere but up.

Mr google just told me there are 147 billionaires in Russia and 539 in China!! and several in... VietNam.
Many are considered oligarch because they control a segment of the economy.

So, do our resident Marxist want billionaires that provide jobs, or some ******* at the top who definitely wont let you become middle class.

And why do liberals sit around and worry about what is fair?
Its never bothered me as to who has what.
Taxes do bother me, if the money is used for gain of politicians and their families.

Sounds like you need to educate yourself on income (effective rates) taxes and capital gains taxes. Then comeback and try again.

You're manipulating data as pure income subject to normal income taxes vs. capital gains, etc.

I don't think many people are against closing tax loopholes.

The SS argument is worn out and very disingenuous. As you know there is a cap on benefits, so no I don't care that they don't pay much into SS as a percentage of income. SS should be privatized or have an option not to participate.

a lot of people were cool with the idea of a flat tax. It's the ultimate "fair" tax. Flat tax...zero deductions/loopholes, etc.

Yes, I am. They create jobs and commerce, which is the source of wealth for many beyond themselves and all the tax revenue from those activities. Just because they aren't paying taxes on whatever bull**** you're deciding is income doesn't mean their actions aren't making outsized contributions to the overall economy and tax base. They directly contribute and generate tens of thousands of times more in tax revenue in a year than you or I will in an entire lifetime, so if they're paying a lower rate, IDGAS.

If go to a Nordic model the poor and middle class will pay 40-50% and corporations will have a lower tax burden. Yes our corps pay more.

corporate income is already double taxed.

some of corporate revenues go to pay their employees who get taxed. corporate earnings get taxed. a lot of what's left of corporate earnings goes to shareholders as dividends, which get taxed again.

democrats trying to stick it to corporations kills small business, makes US business uncompetitive, and then government just wastes their "revenue" on growing government and crap like changing earth's climate.

You are peddling false statements.

For the same type of income, wealthy people pay a higher tax rate than poorer people.

Look at the earned income tax brackets. The more earned income, the higher the tax rate.

Same for capital gains. Zero tax below certain income levels, then 15% for the next tier and 20% for top earners.

The distinction that you're conveniently glossing over is that super wealthy people make most of their income thru capital gains which are taxed at lower rates than earned income because Congress wants people to invest their capital because of the spinoff jobs that get created by that, instead of sticking their money in a bank CD and sitting on it.

But most Dems know that and skip over that fact. Instead they try to peddle these lies that wealthy people are taxed at lower rates on the same type of income, which is demonstrably false. Dems do that to create division and try to anger poorer people to vote for them on a promise that Dems will make the rich "pay their fair share."

Total hogwash. Dems should be ashamed, but they have no sense of shame. Lying and misrepresentation is a core part of their political agenda.
