The economy is still bad and job market is in a worse situation. Foreigner work visas are still being given out.
HVAC/Plumber/Handyman jobs may be booming but high paying tech jobs are struggling (for Americans).

Trump may have tried but results are not good enough.

https://finance.yahoo.com/economy/article/septembers-jobs-report-shows-the-us-added-just-29000-jobs-and-unemployment-ticked-up-195320409.html

Quote:

The US added just 29,000 jobs in September, missing expectations, as the unemployment rate ticketed up to 4.2%, according to Labor Department data released Friday.

September's miss points to a labor market that's starting to lose steam after a long period of "low hire, low fire" dynamics. Average hourly earnings rose an anemic 0.1% from August, and are up 3% year-over-year, a level that's likely below the current rate of inflation.

So we can assume the stock market will be thrilled about this, and it will be an overwhelmingly green day?

Its crazy how many of our jobs are dependent on government, and how much regulation cripples new hiring.

Not sure monthly releases matter as much as the onshoring going on industrially and AI stuff right now.

Last time we got great monthly data the market also dove as it meant a rate increase coming. Economy noise won't matter in a month I don't think.

Yep. Dow and S&P are trading up.

Slightly weaker jobs data than expected means the Fed may choose to not raise interest rates in October. That's better for the stock market.

Blue color jobs, like the ones you seem to have a disdain for, often make more money than people working in tech.

Not everyone is cut out for tech jobs, pure and simple. Why that seems to be the only sector you focus on 24/7 is rather strange when there are tons of other industries out there.

They also revised August and July down. July is now a losing month for jobs.

It does in the sense that a lot of this growth is fueled by work that doesn't need as many jobs as it did before. A lot of AI investments are, well in AI , instead of hiring. Thats problematic for humans. And for elections.

I work tangentially in health care, and nothing has gotten "easier". In fact talked to a client yesterday where state regulation driven by insurance companies is driving a lot of the small players out of business. Frustrating. And all those people will continue to vote blue.

I don't have disdain for any job that is honest work. But let's not pretend we want our kids to become blue collar as their primary goal (and not fallback)

Even a janitor's job. I myself have worked at a department store cleaning up, bagging, trash compacting etc. I think I made $5/hr. But that was when I was a student.

Blue collar jobs pay lesser than white collar jobs. All the rich guys are white collar. I don't want to be a bus driver or a HVAC guy at this point of life. VP of Engg? Yep.

As an HVAC I may make at most $200k/yr. Tough manual work.
As VP of Engg at Meta, I will make a few Million dollars a year.

See what I mean? These are the jobs stolen from us.

I don't even care about my job anymore. All I care about is this. The rich people running the government will ensure that this is taken care of at all times. They don't really care about jobs. Even the yelling and screaming Vance and others are doing now seems to be for the midterms.

These numbers could just as well be explained by increasing AI spend, or inventory rebuild, or front-loading purchases due to ongoing inflation fears.

Try to turn the argument into class-warfare. It really isn't. The 'available' jobs are just ones being done by low-wage labor that isn't working anymore. A 'K' economy.

What it says to me, with fewer jobs out there, if you have a job, even a bad one, you better keep it or you won't get another one. Lose income, health insurance, etc... Interesting that this happens to be just want the employers want.

That's how the system is rigged.

Yes. This is America, where anyone* can become anything they want. Everyone knows that poor people are only poor because they want to be.

I'll echo this statement. I am in healthcare and work for a major player. Good quarterly growth, leaning heavily into ai, and on a hiring freeze. I've also heard the exact same from customers that on state regulation and insurance companies driving people out of business and fast. The number of companies that can no longer pay their bills on time is staggering. I think about this and these are all older people not yet at retirement age but close who can't just re-enter the workforce and hunt for a job like I could.

OK, lets debunk the OPs' claim.

First, 30k is a good jobs report and about what we need now to keep up with population growth. Trump is blocking immigration and sending immigrants back. That 29k is considered break even.

Some experts on the matter of break even numbers:

Quote:

"Kansas City Fed work in late 2025 got about 77,000 using then-current CBO population projections, and about 29,000 after netting out immigration.

Private estimates from RBC and others have clustered around 20,000-40,000. Apollo this week described breakeven as collapsed toward zero, driven by lower immigration and baby-boomer retirements."

Second, if you look a little deeper OP, you'll see that we lost 17,000 government jobs. That's a good thing.

Third, 4.2% UE is full employment!

There is nothing in this jobs report to support the claim that the economy is bad.

Well, the national association of manufacturers would know more than I do, but the trend is not simply 'data centers' but overall industrial manufacturing from what I have seen; new steel mill in Iowa, etc.

Quote:

Knightley said a manufacturing reshoring surge hasn't happened yet, pointing to the relatively high cost of American factory labor and the lengthy process of planning, permitting and building factories.

But he said reports, like the ones released Thursday by S&P Global and ISM, signal robust growth ahead.

"Higher energy costs mean prices paid rose to (an index reading of) 77.9 from 71.1, but this is a solid report and continues to point to a manufacturing upswing, led primarily by tech, pharma, autos and electronics," Knightley said via email.

S&P Global said domestic demand supported the manufacturing sector at a time when new export orders fell for the 15th straight month. It said manufacturers reported that tariffs and elevated shipping costs had dampened international sales.

Bloom, with the National Association of Manufacturers, said robust demand at home has been a major driver of manufacturing activity this year. Whether that's enough to outweigh weaker foreign demand varies by product and manufacturing subsector, she said.

To another above poster, I don't know anyone in healthcare who has been unable to obtain a job in the past year if unemployed, for more than 60 days. One even had faced having to move back to Australia if she couldn't find a job in oncology quickly (visa issue), and wound up doing so for more money despite being quite panicked for a few weeks. Healthcare isn't an easy industry (nor uniform), but it doesn't have high unemployment either imho.

Manufacturing is increasing, with fewer jobs available due to technology and efficiency. That doesn't seem like the type of "onshoring" promised by this administration.

Right. But that wasn't the point I was making. I was replying to those who recommend that our kids do blue collar jobs and not try to get white collar jobs (that have been invaded). On average, blue collar jobs pay lower than white collar. Which is why foreigners go for white collar or if they are not educated, their kids become white collar.

Which claim? My only claim was that the job market sucks (even now). And it does. Especially in tech (which pays well). Of course the real reason is it's been sold off to foreigners like manufacturing was 40 years ago.

Linkedin/X is full of people who are looking for jobs, can't find one in ages, or settle for lower paying jobs.

The worship of the tech industry above all others is a bizarre, and horribly myopic, stand to make.

Can you share your concept of where the line between blue collar and white collar is drawn?

The term white collar was originally coined as an insult to office workers who couldn't get their hands dirty to do the real work in society. Blue collar was added later to draw a contrast between office and factory workers. Later terms like pink collar for "professional" jobs staffed predominantly by women such as teachers and nurses.

Finally, as a tech worker you are gray collar not white collar. As such, you may want to reconsider your positions.
