Investing in flood prevention in minority communities isn't always a bad thing. Minorities are less likely to have flood insurance and more likely to turn to FEMA or other agencies for taxpayer-funded handouts when a flood occurs. If a project reduces/prevents them from leeching off taxpayers in the future, it has at least some benefit. However, there ways to prioritize such areas that are not directly based on demographics.

i finished dinner last night, in downtown Austin, around 9:45. It wasn't late, but dark outside.

Walking to my parking garage, I was legitimately concerned for my safety. I've lived here a long time, and never felt that nervous before. There were homeless druggies everywhere. It was literally myself and my wife, and no one else but vagrants.

People always claim it's bad, and I roll my eyes, because it's never been as bad as they claim (except when their were encampments for a short time near the lake on 1st Street). But last night, it felt like I was walking through a zombie movie.

They pride themselves on their downtown, but they need to get it cleaned up, again. It's legitimately scary at night.

We've always gone down there to eat occasionally...but it's been a minute since we've made it downtown. I was shocked at how bad it's gotten. It is unsafe as is.

This is a problem city wide. I live on the suburbs- you can see the city limits as it is where the panhandlers and homeless tents stop appearing.

DEI is nothing new in Austin. It's been prioritized probably 30 years.

And that's what proves my opinion about progressives. Inherently, whether intentional or not, they are destructive people.

Take downtown Austin as an example.

If the members of this committee, want to incorporate DEI measures, into a watershed project. Ok. I think it's a waste of time, and utterly dumb...but ok, for the sake of conversation, let's say we all agree with that effort.

Well, to proceed with the project, and interject your DEI ideals, you need funds. These funds come from tax revenue. That tax revenue comes from people visiting your city...staying, eating, enjoying your downtown.

But if you allow all these homeless druggies to make it unsafe, people will stop visiting...meaning less tax revenue...meaning no money for projects like this, or your DEI idealistic efforts.

So either you're too dumb to understand the basics of life, or you just want to burn it all down.

They both end up with the same result....destruction.

People used to think I was crazy on here before Covid when I said the majority of the modern left belonged in mental asylums, labor camps and correctional facilities.

Real "crazy" now right? How else do you propose we peacefully take this country back without resorting to bloodshed? I am all ears.

Joe Rogan actually made a great point on a recent podcast. The main problem is childless people on the left, who never had a baby or know they never will, particularly woman. They are almost always the most vocal and deranged and vitriolic.

They don't have a baby/child to allocate their energy, compassion, and focus as God and nature intended, so the world becomes their baby. They want complete control and any counter beliefs or ideologies is seen as an attack on them and their "baby".

I truly believe that childless/barren loberal women (particularly white women) are by far the greatest threat to western civilization.

At this point, I don't think "peacefully" is possible.

Show me a major Blue City that isn't a sh*thole. As the old saying goes. You can't fix stupid. And stupid is to continue to vote Dem when they literally for 50 years destroy everything they touch.

Progressive tolerance of public disorder is certainly one culprit. However, there is a reality that this problem will not be solved by hands off libertarian public policy. We are dealing with a multifront reality that each have its own levers:

1. Cost of living - It's tough out there for everyone, and in the real world not everyone grew up with good schools, loving parents, and any backstop. The world isn't fair, and some people were dealt a **** hand in life. There isn't a homeless problem in West Virginia even with poverty because housing is available. That isn't true in Austin.

Government response: Less regulation in housing supply. Surplus budgets. Remove crony capitalism. Less government spending and less red tape.

2. Mental health - Some folks are having psychotic breaks and are a danger to themselves and their families, and they live on the streets. These folks were dealt the worst hand in life.

Government response: Increased conservatorship. Actual mental health facilities for those that need them, properly funded. This necessarily means more government spending.

3. Drug Addiction - Chasing the dragon is so alluring to some they'll live in filth for the next high.

Government response: Decriminalization has failed. Full stop. This is something I was wrong about. Being strung out on the street is not your God given right to be free. You can and should be arrested for possession, and potential placed under conservatorship until you are sober. This necessarily means more government spending.

There are several avenues to deal with homes that have repeat flooding claims. In order to reduce the cost of FEMA flood insurance, improving drainage to reduce higher value homes making claims reduces the overall total burden.

Low income areas were generally built out prior to the FEMA flood maps and policies being developed in the mid 1970's. Where those homes will repeat flood and there isn't a feasible option to increase drainage to protect those homes, they should be bought out, demolished and returned to green space.

HCFCD and FEMA know where the most problematic homes are and in areas like Banana Bend, they were all bought out and leveled. Prior the goal was to reduce high cost claims by increasing the engineering for drainage to reduce the burden on FEMA. Other politicians want to attempt to increase the drainage engineering in areas where that's not as likely to work due to topography.
