My daughter was about the age of the victims in this case. Mays declined my interview, so I just had to go with a mountain of paperwork and photos. It shook me up.

Good. ******* should've been dead over 20 years ago.

Unfortunately, executing someone 21 years after their conviction (for a triple murder) has little effect on someone else committing a deadly crime.

I believe every human being should be given the opportunity to prosper and create a good life.

I don't believe any innocent human deserves to die and that every single human deserves a chance to live their life.

I also believe that once someone makes the decision to take another life or do some other horrible things to other people that they had their chance and punishment for those crimes are worthy of the death penalty.

When we stopped hanging in the manner beautifully designed by the British (with 1260 foot pounds being applied in such a way as to separate the cervical vertebrae), decapitations occurred. Some people might have thought that was cruel and unusual punishment. That's why we switched to electrocution.

It is posted officially, but not on X. Search "Death Row Home Page." This TDC website really provides a lot of interesting and thought-provoking information, including a list of those on death row, those who received pardons and commutations, and those who have been executed (along with their last statements).

They used to post information about the last meals ordered by inmates, but they removed it (probably because of the obsessive fascination by people like me).

Interestingly, a former inmate who prepared those last meals became a rehabilitated capitalist when he was released and wrote and had published the book "Meals to Die For." Love the title, don't you? I received a copy of this book as a parting gift from one of my classes (I taught Texas and Federal Government), as they became equally interested in this subject after first expressing their shock over the existence of Death Row Home Page. They routinely asked, "Professor _____, are we killing anyone this week?"

It's called The Deterrent Factor, and we definitely need to bring it back.

Good! should've happened about 6 months after conviction.

One of the things I really don't get about the process is that the appeals don't actually take 20 years. The appellate process is usually over in a matter of a few years. Then they just sit there waiting on the date.

I've looked up a lot of these guys, and I can't remember if it was this particular guy or his co-defendant or someone else who is upcoming on the schedule but their appeals have actually been done for over 10 years.

What I would like is if anyone knows to explain why it takes that long to get them on the schedule once the appeals are actually done? What is the process involved for the state officials to actually set the execution date?

For the system to really become efficient, tie the release of violent criminals to the judges that allow them out and if there are repeat violent offenses, that cuts into the judge's pension/benefits. Imagine if the idiots who let these guys off with a lighter sentence had to worry about it actually hitting their pocketbooks, then you'd see a lot more true justice, instead of the virtue-signaling leftist justices we seem to see all too often now.

TDCJ doesn't do last meal requests any longer. They get whatever is being served that day for chow.
