So, I concur with the statement expressed above to never give an inch on enforcing immigration laws and sovereignty over the border. All of the sad stories and personal tragedy that result from parents being depressed and anchor baby children being separated from parents or also being deported is the fault of their parents, not the government or native born citizens.

Being granted legal residency in the US should be treated by the recipient as a huge privilege and should always be a net economic benefit to the US. Being born in the US should be understood as a golden ticket in the birth lottery. That should be taught and reinforced in public school at every grade level.

Nope. By today's standards, Reagan was fairly liberal on immigration. In 1981, well before Simpson-Mazzoli passed in 1986, he explicitly supported legalizing illegal immigrants already in the country. Amnesty wasn't something Democrats got him to do - it was already his position.
