I remember when Hutto was six-man.

The elementary school, junior high, and high school were basically all the same building.

Well, what we need is for the state to start building roads again and not toll roads. Turn that toll road to a free road and we would get more housing developments north/south of that area. Having everything using 79 is no bueno.

I was making runs between CS and Round Rock in about '81/'82. Hutto was kind of a joke out in no man's land.

I drive thru there now and am astounded at the growth.

I cut through there on my way to College Station.

The growth is amazing. Hutto has blown up, and Taylor is blowing up now that Samsung is taking over.

I looked at a piece of property out there a year or two ago, and saw the plans for redevelopment of downtown Taylor and it was amazing. They're basically rebuilding/remodeling the entire downtown area.

Aside from their infrastructure, they need to put some money into their school systems...but I have a feeling they'll be playing catchup with all the additional growth about to happen.

I had a friend that was researching towns in central Texas about 10 years ago to move to for retirement. He finally chose Taylor and was happy with his choice. It was close to Austin where his son lived, and still had the small town feel.

Fast forward a few years and now the largest chip plant in America (Samsung) is building in Taylor. Next to it is a new packaging plant and research facility. He is obviously not too happy with the changes. And yes, Hutto is exploding also. I remember a few years ago a cotton farmer selling his property there for $3M for the new

It's not only on 79, its everything from south of 79 down to 21 on the east side of austin, growing everyday. The blue collar folks that cant afford to live in austin, but work in and around all that new austin construction, are in that area. It's a mish-mash of housing and mom and pop stuff with poco loco stores mixed in on all two lane roads.

There is one planned, but TxDOT doesn't have any money right now, so it's not being built.

Grew up in NW Austin and our extended family was from the Taylor area, so I never really thought much about the awesomeness of the different mascots in the area. Hutto Hippos, RR Dragons. Taylor Ducks.

The East Wilco Highway is getting close to completion. It will get the south Hutto, Pflugerville, etc. people to Taylor and alleviate some traffic on 79.

They definitely need some overpasses on 79 though Hutto, kind of like what they built on 620 to get past both Chisholm Trail and Round Rock High.

TXDOT is already going to take forever to eliminate the last remaining traffic lights on Hwy 71 going into Austin because of the I-35 expansion siphoning away all the funds. We don't need any more highways getting their hands dipping into the pot that is already empty.

Already all over north austin burbs

Moved to Hutto from Houston. Bought 2 acres and a house 'in the country' in Taylor. Samsung plant announced and construction started within a year of buying. Can see it from my driveway. Just bought a house in Thrall. Announced a data center coming to Taylor/Thrall line. Cool.

I'd be interested to see the plans for total renovation of downtown Taylor. I am pretty in tune with some 'big wigs' and haven't heard of that actually happening at all.

My mom's cousin and her family lived near the highway on their cotton farm. I believe it was Walmart but they were offered $millions 20 or so years ago and happily retired. She was a lifelong counselor at Taylor HS, has an elementary school named after her, and is known as "Mama Duck".

It's insane to see the amount of commercial property development happening there now.

Have frequented the Hutto Starbucks quite a bit over the years driving north/south on 130 (which is badass).

The Samsung execs were in town one time we are at that Starbucks right around when they broke ground or were talking about it. Two Escalades with all these badass looking Japanese Yakuza looking dudes in sunglasses and suits.
