I think that's it. Seeing these videos and looking at the shape of the valley and terrain in Hunt combined with the devastation I saw I imagine it looked much like this. Sudden and inescapable.

Concrete foundations completely gone. Cars and trucks in the tops of trees. Looked like a nuclear bomb went off.

I couldn't wrap my head around the power that went through there until I saw the Nepal videos.

Whatever dropped off those two boulders in Hunt must've been something.

Pro tip, if living along a river or there is a creek or even a dry creek bed nearby and the area has huge boulders that don't belong, find somewhere else to live.

Exactly correct. Those climate clowns are going to put this disaster front and center for days, weeks, months, even years insisting burning Dino's remains or cow farts, and the resultant additional CO2 in the atmosphere, was the cause. Never mind the fact we've been gradually warming since the last Ice Age. Never mind one volcano puts more CO2 in the atmosphere than decades of oil usage. There is no absolute proof CO2 causes warming of the atmosphere anyways! Facts don't matter to the climate change circle jerk. They really are low down, despicable ***holes.

During my early years in Colorado, the Big Thompson flood of 1976 reached a peak of 30 feet as it surged through the Big Thompson River canyon in Estes Park. Approximately a year later, I drove along Highway 34 and observed debris still lodged high on the mountain slopes. Floods in mountain canyons can be extremely destructive.

Looks like the slide traveled about 6 miles through the riverbed before striking the checkpoint from the northeast.

I don't put this on the same level as visiting an actively erupting volcano la the Whakaari incident. This is more akin to having a stick and frame house in the middle of tornado country to me and it just so happens that an F5 drops on your house. In theory we're all living in the shadow of a volcano right now, if Yellowstone blows at any point the US is hosed. The entire Pacific Northwest is just waiting for a fault slip. The entire Atlantic coast is waiting for the Canary Islands to collapse into the ocean and send tsunami waves across the entire ocean.

Nature is metal and there is no location that isn't just a ticking time bomb.

Many parts of the TAR (and probably Nepal) are only accessable through the mountage gorges, and quite a few are very geologically unstable. I remember riding through the border with Sichuan via G318 (think an interstate) and seeing a good portion in Changdu (Qamdo) that would constantly collapse, the PLA engineers would keep excavators every 2 miles or so as the road slides into the river to keep digging out a new road.
