Normally flooding in other countries is not newsworthy, but these are the most insane flooding videos I have ever seen. If I didn't know it was real, I would have assumed it was AI. This is worse than the Japanese tsunami, the Texas floods from 2 years ago in the valley, and the Helene floods.







There is no way this doesn't end with more than 10,000 dead. In a number of these videos, there is no way any of the people survived. This is the literal definition of "wall of water."

The cause may be an and earthquake induced glacial lake outburst, which is pretty much a worst case flash flood scenario. There is no warning and no way to get out.

I have some friends in Nepal, fortunately not in this area.

The countries infrastructure is very poor. Most of the roads are terrible, in Texas, you can travel 100 miles in an hour and a half, there, it can easily be an 8 hour journey. They also do not have much military airlift capacity. Just getting help to the area will be a major challenge.

Also, based on the terrain, it looks like they chose some of the worst places to build such infrastructure. Though, maybe flooding in that valley has never been an issue?

I don't think it matters what the infrastructure construction was here. This was a 200 foot wall of water. No building is surviving this barring a nuclear bunker.

This wasn't caused by rainfall. It was an earthquake induced glacial dam burst. A worst case scenario flash flood. There is nothing they could have done.

wow, thats terrible, those people had no chance. massive flooding at the bottoms of mountain valleys is never the place to be when thats going on. similar to what happened in the US a few years ago

An immigrant family from Nepal opened a small gas station at the end of our neighborhood(rural on a lake) about two years ago now. The building had been sitting empty for over a decade and they did a great job on it. They sell the Krspy Crunch and Hunt Brothers and carry cold Coors Original in 24 ounce cans. Two gas pumps. Live worms and minnows.

Anyway they are absolutely the nicest people in the world. All of them. Love them. Hard working, spiritual, funny, honest, etc. the youngest are going to Kindergarten next year. Anyway older lady that opens the store every morning went back to Nepal two weeks ago for a month long visit. I pray that she is OK. That must be very hard for that family to watch from a world away. But knowing my neighbors I am sure that they will get a lot of well wishes and care today. And I pray that the lady wasn't anywhere near it.

I know over 50 Nepalese people, mostly students and soldiers, and this completely tracks. 90+% of them are legit good people.

My neighbor is from Nepal and their family still lives there (thankfully not affected). They are all amazing people. So welcoming and generous. Their family comes to visit every few months and all of them are just extremely happy people.

One of my direct reports is from Nepal. She's also a very good person. Her elderly father still lives there, but he's in Kathmandu, so he should be okay. He is the former Chief Justice of Nepal and a very nice man.

That Insider Paper video shows what geoscientists refer to as a Mass Transport Complex. It's one thing to see the aftermath of a MTC on seismic. It's quite another to watch it happen on video. Mother Nature is merciless.

I work with Sowers Ministry in Nepal and many children from our orphanages are missing this morning. We will be showing several videos and pictures tonight and Sunday in hopes of getting some help. Our office there was also damaged. Sowers Ministry home office is in Kingwood.
