Yes, a new grad who is 22 years old. He is in the team matching stage with Google and when the new roles open up this year, he will be called for those and he will cross 200k.

People who say the solution for men is to go into the trades have not seen who is in most of the trades these days. If you want to go into the trades, make sure you can speak Spanish and also realize about half the guys you are competing for jobs with are illegals.

A master welder who is good at their job and actually good at business can easily make $250k to $500k.

Underpaid, absolutely not.
While i don't know the starting wages, it would be cool to be a welder on rockets. And all SpaceX employees (including the janitorial staff) get stock. Its pretty remarkable. Not many companies do that.

You just don't get it. Don't be stuck with 50s world view about welders being macho and getting the girls and "working with hands". Those notions are outdated. Remember, we have been invaded by foreigners who make more money than us Americans.

If you get into a tech job (or become a doctor), you make a LOT of money. With that money you can educate your kids and not have to take on any debt.

My example:
I had some debt getting out of college which I paid off quickly. My tech job paid me well and I made a good amount of money that I paid for a $125k grad school degree myself with no debt. This was 20 years ago.

Then my kid just completed his Bachelors degree in Computer Science. I paid for his entire education and everything so he is DEBT FREE. He has nothing holding him back and can tell bad employers to piss off. You cannot if you are in debt. My daughter just started college and I paid her entire first semester myself. No debt.

In my case, I invested well so that pushed me into this zone, not just tech. But if you do tech well and in the Bay Area or Seattle, you can make a ton of money so you don't have to worry about debt.

I paid off my 500k house in 2018. No debt since.

I am not in the Bay Area but I am planning to move there in a 6-12 months. Will buy a house, eyeing a $4.2M house in upscale Saratoga, CA that just came on the market. I won't be able to move there next week but that is the type of money I am talking about and I am planning to buy in the area.
