Chili's cracked the code for affordability and quality. I think they are doing way better than most crappy chain restaurants on the highway these days where everything tastes the same and costs $70-100 for a quick dinner out.

Chilis is one of the fastest growing chains in America. And doing quite well.

And outside their gringo flour tortillas (which make sense for them), their foods add good as any for the price point.

Their buffalo chicken salad was awesome. I also love their citrus vinaigrette

Where was your first Zima with a Jolly Rancher?

Ha. Zima was one of the worst things ever concocted. As is Red Bull but somehow the latter has survived. No idea how people drink that.

I'll have you know sir, Red Bull is the nectar of the gods and has kept me awake on many of overtime days.

In fact had three 20oz red bulls last night having to work a 16 hour shift.

Jger bombs are still my go since I was 17 back in 2003.

So don't you dare smite the gods nectar.

My gummy-bear died. My unicorn ran away. My imaginary friend got kidnapped. The voices in my head wont talk to me.
I've got a red bull. So I got that going for me.

Years and years ago - probably early 1980's - you could buy these little plastic buckets of their margaritas. I believe you had to add your own tequila and then make their frozen margs in the comfort of your own home. To this day I still have that little bucket. It's in my shed holding some small gardening tools.

Back in the 90's the bar at the College Station OTB was rockin' (and yes the TexMex in BCS sucked back then).

And as long as the OTB Cantina Thin chips survive this at the grocery store I am good.

RIP.

You must not have been around in the early days of Chilis. Or even during the '90s. The only thing it has in common with the good restaurants of its past is the name.

I haven't been there in well over a year (probably 3, and dragged there then) and have zero plans to go back. I'd sooner get fast food.

I worked for Brinker International back in the mid to late 90's. Chili's was the cash cow that funded all the other concepts. They actually had another mexican food concept back then called Cozy Mel's. I thought it was better than OTB but it never really got off the ground as I remember and they kind of shuttered it.

Horrible white gringo food

I don't know about that. We used to like to order their appetizer plate. Kinda hard to screw up nachos, flautas, cheese dip, etc. If you're going there for top flight Mexican food, there's better places, but I wouldn't call it horrible.

SWEAR TO God, I just thought the same thing, but, truth is, the OTB in CS has been closed for several years. If that doesn't end up in the Bush Library, they shoul give it to RC Slocum.

Maybe, but most people who order an Awesome Blossom are splitting it between 3-4 people, so it's not that big of a deal. I can't imagine eating the whole thing for just one person, unless you're some calorie deficit triathlete or something.

Cozymel's had much better Mexican food (some Tex-Mex plus other coastal Mexican dishes; some incredible sauces on their items). Their Plano / Park and Preston restaurant was always busy and one of our go-to restaurants in the late 1990s / early 2000s.

Brinker could never get that concept to grow.

Ahhh, Macaroni Grill. They'd bring out the gallon jug of wine and the glasses. You'd just keep pouring til you couldn't take it anymore, and when the waiter was bringing the check, 'How many glasses of wine did you have??' 'Me? Oh, I just had one!' I'm still convinced that's why they shut down, LOL.

Old or new? When Pappas took them over, they changed both the chips and the salsa. I have to admit, the old bagged chips and the salsa sold in the grocery store were no worse than pretty decent. I make my own salsa most of the time but if I needed something quick, I often grabbed OTB or Tostitos (no joke; they've changed it lately but it used to be good, particularly the hot stuff).

Original chilis was great. Those chicken tenders were the best ever, but then they changed the recipe somewhere along the way and ruined them.

Did this latest iteration of Chili's that is doing well bring that original recipe back by chance?

Having many kinds of crisper is one of the things commonly cited by leadership as something they had to change and the tempura supposedly lost in taste testing to their under 40 customers that they focused their changes on. Kinda miss those too.

Private equity bought them in 2014, Pappas bought them at the bankruptcy auction for 15.9 million, and now they are throwing in the towel.

Between covid and inflation I'm surprised more places aren't calling it quits.

I mean, the food was terrible. But that seems pretty common at a lot of restaurants today. Covid set the restaurant industry back to McDonalds level. My wife and I hardly eat out anymore b/c we don't want to pay $70 to drink water (we hardly every drink alcohol) and eat bad food.

Why you bringing Chili's into this?

The service also sucks now too at every chain but roadhouse and Waffle House.

Sir, I'll have you know the Chili's here in Bixby, Oklahoma is solid! Can't beat that Three for Me deal….

Bixby????

Do y'all have any hanging gardens? What about some ancient ruins??

How about a big church clock? Or any festivals? We all took off work for your international tour!
