If he maintains his moderate stances throughout, and actually runs, and actually survives the Dem primary, he will be very tough to beat. All he has to do is take the feckless middle and most squishy Republicans will happily vote for him.

I posted this because he's been an under the radar potential POTUS candidate who is running on a moderate campaign message (whether that is actually true or not). It's notable because he's the only candidate thus far that is taking that angle. It's interesting from a pure political Game of Thrones standpoint for the Dem primary.

He's Obama's former right hand who the Dems still worship as a Messiah. If he can survive the Dem primary he's going to be tough to beat regardless of his actual governance. To your own point, see Spanberger. If he somehow becomes the Dem nominee, all kinds of people are dumb enough to fall for his messaging.

I'm not saying he's good. I'm saying it's interesting to follow from a political gamesmanship perspective because of how he's approaching this vs the rest of the Dem field.
