What happens when one comedy show shares the same writing team?

You get a collection of these d bags. All the usual suspects wen on Colberts show to touch each others naughty bits, and (I can only assume because I didn't watch) make more lame joke about the orange guy that drives their ratings

This is also a foreshadowing of what I proclaim as the Artificial Intelligence Economy. When everyone shares the same source and no one thinks on their own, we are destined for this sort of garbage product for consumers

Thank You Notes was usually a pretty good segment. Does he still do that.

Everyone assumes that all the best businesses are just going to mindlessly use AI.

We don't.

We use AI to do grunt work / shovel work, so we can spend more time being creative on telling what other grunt work to tell AI to do.

It's working well for us.

If every other company but us in the industry decides to just let AI do their jobs, we will own the industry in 5 years. Bu, I think that people are not so dumb that they will let that happen.

Fallon's best bit was breaking character during a sketch on SNL.

Very funny the first time, less funny the second time, not funny at all the 100th time and beyond.

Yeah, I would say they were funny.

But given I haven't watched Late Night TV probably since about 2007, when Netflix launched streaming, I can't really say they are or aren't funny now. But a few seem like miserable humans.

That's the lowest bar for actual comedy.

A room full of 5th-grade boys, trying to outdo each other with armpit fart noises, would be funnier.

What are their ratings like. Anecdotally I haven't watched a late night show in 20+ years. I've never heard anyone in my personal life say "Hey did you see Kimmel last night? Great show." No one talks about it other than conservatives on X when they say something inflammatory toward conservatives.
Does average Joe actually watch any of these shows?

John Oliver had some genuinely interesting bits when he very first got his own segment. Back when he was actually trying to shed light on things that needed light shed on them. Then he just couldn't help himself in the end and went off the cliff pretty much like they all did. Kinda interesting to see the path and tone each one went through over the years to end up where they ended up where they did.

They don't make em like this anymore

I'll die on the hill that Craig Ferguson was the best late night host after Johnny. Funny, edgy and not political. He made fun of everyone including himself.

Conan O'Brien was outstanding in the 90's. I'd stay up late as a teenager to watch in bed. Then again, most everything in the 90's was better than today.

Letterman was that way until the early 2000s. He got pissed off at GWB about invading Iraq (in hindsight he wasn't necessarily wrong), but once on that path it went downhill.

Should look up what pictures of their writers' rooms looked like in the early 2000s vs what they looked like about 10-15 years later.

This just further proves they live in an elitist bubble with zero self-awareness and are absolutely tone-deaf.

They double-downed and circled the wagons thinking somehow this show of solidarity will save their jobs.

Newsflash: people don't care about you and your show. You're not Carson, you're not Letterman, you're not Leno. That's why your ratings are going down, and that's why you either are being cancelled or will be. It's not some right-wing conspiracy to get rid of you.

You did it to yourselves. Quit preaching to us under the guise of thinking you're funny and entertaining. You're not.

There was info posted on this a couple of weeks ago. I am sorry if I don't give details, but the ratings for these guys are not great considering what it costs to pay the writers and produce the shows. One of the big problems for these five is they are all telling the same tired jokes, so they are all fighting over the same slice of pie. Gutfeld beats them largely because he is the one guy who offers an alternative while they cheerfully battle against each other for the same audience.

Secretly, I bet Kimmel and Fallons teams are happy to see Colbert get cut
