100% Indian
Then we should say that. This new found trend of using Asian for Indians makes me insane.
I don't believe this is a trend. The races for census data are White, Black, American Indian/Native American/Native Alaskan, Asian, Native Hawaiin/Pacific Islander. People from India have always been classified as Asian from this standpoint.
Maybe so but common parlance has always been Asian = Oriental and Indian = Indian. We first moved away from Oriental because that became racist.
Well now that we have large populations of Indians, I've gone back to using Oriental since so many are now using Asian for both. Two completely different peoples. Not even the same race.
People are Asian. Inanimate objects are oriental.
I get that but give me better descriptors so that we can distinguish between two entirely different peoples and cultures. Asian for both is not adequate.
Why not?
Go call a Ukrainian a Russian. Canadian an American. Go call an Australian a Brit. Go call an Indian a Pakistani. Go call a Persian an Arab. Go call a Argentinian a Mexican. See what happens
To generalize by a region, or race, is dumb. Geography, Demographics, and more importantly Culture, matter. They define who we are exponentially moreso than ambiguous Geographic continental labels. To neglect to indentify with specifics is to purposely muddy the waters and mislead for the sake of achieving a political goal
