Bull***** Everyone is laying off like mad right now.

Not everyone. I'm in a construction related field and we are hiring and have a 6 month plus backlog.

Business is good.

Be watchful though.

When (if) Trump kicks out H1Bs and legal/illegal immigrants in large numbers, housing prices will fall and construction will lag.

That is when your business will suffer if it happens.

So you should be praying for open borders and go vote for Kamala next time!

Current housing shortfall by all estimates is around 4 million SF homes. There are less than 750k principle H1-Bs.

If you deported every single H-1B and their families and took Trump's deportation numbers at face value, you are still well over a million short.

Housing prices across most markets will not fall. In fact, recent data still shows them being robust.

"Better than expected" does NOT mean "good"

When you expect it to stink to high heavens and it does not stink as much (but still stinks), it does not mean it smells of forests and rain.

so all these government bureaucrats who are NOT MAGA are reporting 115,000 jobs created and 4.3% unemployment

While nice to see, this isn't exactly a bell-ringing jobs report. But it's good enough to stop Trump and the GOP from panicking and doing something really stupid, so I'll take it.

Trump has been kicking illegals out in large numbers since he took office, or they've been leaving on their own. Business is great.

Sorry this upsets you so much.

Also, I've never voted Democrat in my lifetime. Never will either.

4x break-even is extremely good! Data, not feelings and baseless opinion.

Okay. From -15, we are at -12. Good news no doubt, we could easily have slid to -20.
That is the positive.

Big picture is still very negative, we are still at -12 and people are struggling.

Note: Numbers are for illustrative purposes and have no other meaning

Not all jobs are created equal and underemployment (U6) did rise.

But the main and only metric I really care about, Prime age employment / prime age pop, is still strong:

Olds nope'ing out to retirement quick with the market ATH and AI ah'comin:

It's not about it being a really awesome incredible job support. It's more about how the Democrats want to see an absolute destructive economy so they can try to regain power and it didn't happen.

To add...
A lot of those on H1-B and people that came over via chain migration live in multi-generational housing. Could probably spin this into its own thread, but SF housing in the US is vastly different in overall utilization here vs other parts of the world.
Simple point being, it's another point that visa elimination and go-homes won't free us as much housing.

Not enough. And not just illegals, I want certain kinds of legals (H1Bs are all legal) to be kicked out as well.

Yes, I am very upset, but because he needs to be doing more and time is running short.

I voted for Trump all 3 times and I want him to get more aggressive with the scams and cut all the crap visas that foreigners have been misusing. Kill OPT is one, he can do it today.

PS: I voted for Obama both times and that was a big mistake. I got taken in. I didn't like McCain talking about his war record all the time. Funnily, I did admire Mitt Romney a lot back then especially his being CEO of Bain Cap. I used to be in awe of CEOs in those days. Until he made his speech laughing at poor people that got caught on tape which tanked his campaign. Mitt was at Stanford the same time as my dad.

Here is my talking point:

AI is not going to hurt small businesses. It is going to help small businesses. A lot. A whole, whole lot.

It's like everything else....depends on the type of business.

If you're a small manufacturer, or service provider, I'd agree with you.

A buddy of mine owns a small property appraising company. He says it's just a matter of time. Another buddy owns a small graphic design firm. They've already seen a huge drop.

I am working on an AI 401A valuation company, so I believe that AI can, in fact, help small business valuation / appraisal companies.

Graphic design firms as well, you just have to step up your game. If you become an expert in using AI to create better logos, websites, etc, there will be a market for your services.

Adapt or die.

Yes, it certainly can help them. In fact, both those examples I gave are utilizing Ai.

But it's not a matter of adaptation. It's efficiency.

If 1 company can now do the work of 10....that's 9 less small businesses. The marketplace will adapt as well...

You are assuming zero cannibalization of the companies that adapt the slowest, giant battleship companies with larger customer bases that take forever to change.

I think that is a bad assumption.

We don't really know how many illegals are in the country. We also don't know how many legal foreigners are in the country who pretend that they are citizens

So these numbers are very misleading. Many H1Bs have converted to green card over the years and are not in the H1B list also.

Not sure what you mean.

MAGA/Non MAGA or Conservative/Liberal, these labels mean nothing to me. You can call me a socialist if you like, I don't really care or feel offended. I've been called all these on here, not a problem.

These labels have meanings that keep changing over the times anyway.

In general, I don't trust most governments and most corporations. The environment in my industry (tech) is terrible. Absolutely horrendous. Now if you say the world is great, then I will be suspicious. Maybe any "great" numbers the administration puts out has conditions. Maybe the data is skewed in a way that they want. There are many ways of twisting data to fit a narrative.

Inflation is exponentially less than the peak under President Biden.
Wages outpaced inflation showing signs of improvement over the hellscape President Biden presided over.

1 I posted the number of private versus government jobs. 2023 still doubled the number of jobs created in the private sector over the latest release.

2 Mr. 15 Days to Slow the Spread was President during said Covid panic and job losses.

I am happy that the job numbers were better that anticipated. I just think it is important that people try to look at things in context rather that being misled by looking at things in a vacuum.

How many times do we need this rug pull to happen before we stop trusting this damn report? This has happened far too many times for y'all to have not picked up on it yet. Report comes out with big numbers backed by fuzzy estimations and incomplete data. Months later the revision comes out and show it was all a mirage. Rinse and repeat.

I also want to see where all these supposed jobs are going. So far, for the last few years, all we've seen grow is the healthcare industry as the Boomers retire and start hiring in home nurses. Those manufacturing jobs that were supposed to come flooding back? Nowhere to be seen.

You know, you can't just start manufacturing things overnight. You have to acquire or build the space, equipment, etc.

I hope so. But corps will try ship them all overseas as that is what they do and is a loophole. Trump has to plug it.

If that is plugged then jobs will be given to citizens, our kids and grandkids and they will buy homes.

We need to open our eyes and not blindly believe these institutions.

Why not celebrate rosy jobs report? Just because the job situaion in your career field isn't where you want it to be, doesn't mean other areas are good.

If you have numbers that differ from the rosy jobs report, post them. But be sure the source isn't some institution you blindly believe.
