Tennessee completed their new map today in a special session (already now signed by governor, pending pathetic lefty lawfare challenge which will fail yet again). Democrats reacted as one would expect to a map that very likely adds a black US Representative to the state.

There's a lot of profanity/screeching/profanity on various videos out there of the voting (I think one Democrat state rep got in a shoving/cursing match with a state trooper). Hopefully this one is clean:

This one is not clean. NSFW
But does show why other TN representatives are saying that stuff like this should get you thrown in jail

Dang, what a clown that guy is!

A reminder that Clyburn's endorsement saved Biden's presidential run in the primary, on the basis that he commit to picking a black female running mate and likewise Scotus nominee. He's essentially responsible for foisting Kamala and KBJ on the nation, is my point. I cannot wait for him to become just a retired private citizen.

David Pascoe (R, but a 'former' D) who is running for the state AG has praised Clyburn as the 'Godfather of South Carolina'.

Told ya'll. There was no way the VA state supreme court would allow that many blatant violations of their state constitution and statutes to let that election result to stand.

VA can try it again, of course. But this time they will have to follow the lw in doing so.

According to their constitution, there is nothing they can do for 2026 at this point.

Over two years, since the measure has to be passed twice with intervening elections before the subject can be put before the voters for a change in the state constitution.

Assuming this past election counts, then it would have to be passed again by the state assembly and then an election which has to be a statewide one, not local.

I don't think certainty was justified. 3 justices dissented, on incredibly spurious bases from what I have skimmed so far.

One can never trust democrats, in black robes or not, to follow basic principles of the law.

They fought the law…

And the law won (thank God).

Possibly hilarious news in Utah re: Dem re-districting shenanigans. Justice resigns after 'rumors' she slept with Democrat plaintiffs attorney in redistricting case.

Utah is so weird I don't think they fix this one seat this cycle, tbf.

I am getting skeptical about SC this cycle. I think they have until the 14th to do a redistricting vote, but Shane Massey did not change his position (he's the Senate majority leader) after talking to Trump, and a 2/3 vote in the state senate is needed to go into special session to vote on the map which the House has passed now.

More:
Quote:

South Carolina House Republicans on Thursday released a proposed redrawn congressional map, calling it a starting point should the GOP-controlled legislature return for a special session to undergo redistricting.

The map was released throughout both chambers after Senate Republicans expressed concerns internally, then publicly, that they'd be forced to vote whether to debate the contentious issue post-sine die without actually having seen a potential map.
...
Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey told reporters he learned of the map Thursday. First impression? "It confirms the concerns that I've had all along," the Edgefield Republican said.
...
Massey has heard twice from President Donald Trump, who has pressured southern states to redraw their maps to help shore up seats in Congress and keep Republican control.

Massey has described both calls as cordial and very positive, not antagonistic, hostile or aggressive.
"I understand why the president's asking. I completely understand that," Massey said. "My concern has been, not that I don't want want to try to help him, I do want to try to help him. But what I don't want to do is make it worse."

Massey said he shared his concerns with Trump and other White House officials. In part, they include the risk of making the map more competitive, keeping communities of interest together and avoiding an overhaul in the state's election calendar.

Republican leaders have said there are no promises they will ultimately redraw the map, only that recent efforts start the process.

Note, I could be wrong about some of that, I don't know their laws etc. He did say both maps would get 'considerable debate' in the upper chamber, but I am skeptical of his intent.
