This is a very alarming article. I dont k ow who this guy is but I presume he has some semblance of influnce seeing as how he has a column in a major newspaper.

Immediate question- why come to america, other than to be a parasite that lives on our successes, if you arent willing to adapt to our norms

2. Assimilation is absolutely required if your plan is to go to another nation. An american moving to iran would be expected to assimilate to their nation and culture. Why should america be expected to expect less

3. We are unique. The only way our nation survives is for everyone to buy into a common identity and behave in a behavior inside a particular framework. We are a judeo-Christian nation, based on western judeo-christian values. It doesnt require one to be Christian, but, thats our foundation as a whole.the article says a Muslim cannot exist outside of sharia as it dictates their personal behavior. Our culture and one based on sharia are non compatible.

4. You can indeed be a Muslim and a good american. This article basically says thats impossible without any particular Muslim forgoing Muslim traditions and teachings and becoming more secular. Okay, but the usa has no obligation to keep those who choose a religous hardline over common americanism (things like free speech, freedom of religion, justice, fairness, etc.)


Anyway, if this is a commonly shared opinion, then weve got a problem. When I look at the UK, france, Germany, Belgium, I tend to think this is a commonly held belief.

Lack of assimilation is the main reason for discrimination. From the Irish to the Italians to Hispanics to any other flavor of humanity: when you don't try to fit in, you won't be treated like you fit in. It's basic human nature, both for good and for bad.

Couldnt agree with you more.

The bleeding hearts love to tell you we're a nation of immigrants. The difference is, my family, like so many others, came here as legal immigrants...to be American.

Not a [fill in the blank] living in America....but a die-heard, red-blooded, contributing member of this great nation.

I don't to the movies, and demand they keep the lights on. I dont go into women's restrooms, and demand they allow men. I dont go into Baptist churches, and demand they teach Mormonism. Why? Because the selfishness of that type of attitude is beyond ludicrous, and borders on insanity. I enter those places with the full knowledge of the expectations for anyone who enters.

So don't immigrate to my country, and explain why you can't adapt to our culture. Assimilate or GTHO.

They won't. What will you do about it?
You gave them citizenship. You gave them all rights. Now they will do as they please.

Nothing anyone can do as long as they don't break the law. Having to assimilate is not the law, it is an option. People assimilate only when they are in small numbers. If you allow shiploads of people from one place to enter, they won't feel the need to assimilate. In turn they make make YOU assimilate to their culture.

PS: By "you", I mean the US. Not any individual.

I am up for English only. But no politician has the balls to enforce it. He will called a "hater". We can't even kick people out who want to work here when so many of our own are looking for jobs.

Citizenship revoked on what basis?

That worked in 1900 because almost everyone coming in were from compatible (more or less) cultures. In 2000 that is not the case.

Not every culture is compatible with the other/.

Texas and Texans are nothing like California or New York. They discourage assimilation.

Texans of Mexican descent are just Texans. This state was founded by people from different heritages.

Stop all immigration. At the beginning of every year, figure out what skill sets we need more of. Some medical specialty? Allow some number of them to come in. Some type of engineer we have a shortage of? Allow some number of them to come in. They have to speak pretty decent English and are deported if they do not assimilate.

The melting pot has melted. We need a more homogenous population, not a more diverse one.

I agree with your sentiment above.

However, politicians and corporations will not let it happen. Pols want votes and corps want slaves. Both mean more immigration into the country, not less.

In the old days only Euros came here and they were compatible. Now everyone dreams to come here including jihadis and scammers.

We are screwed.

As an advocate of public health for marginalized members of society. The should assimilate purely
for public health reasons, as this demographic tends to die earlier than other groups due to blowing up.
