The left is always on the wrong side of history.

Testing was given the green light last August by Mayor Zohran Mamdani's predecessor, Eric Adams. A City Hall spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment from THE CITY.

I was in Vegas a few weeks ago and I couldn't believe the amount of self driving vehicles. That genie aint going back in the bottle.

Bottom line is liberals abhor the free market and anything they can't control (and profit from) through regulation or unionization that indirectly fills their coffers.

Waymos are dangerous. I wouldn't trust them. I see them all the time doing crazy stuff in downtown Austin...and I read an article that says they sometimes blow by school busses with their stop signs out.

They are everywhere in Austin. I wouldn't get in one yet. Let you guys be the guinea pigs.
I hope I did not offend anybody with this post. If I did, please come see me at my address in my profile so we can talk.

It actually tracks with anti-capitalist ideology. One of the effects of capitalism is the efficiency of markets, as plainly evidenced by technological advancement. If it saves labor, then that is the enemy of the socialist/communist, because that is where their power is derived from. Advancement great enough to cause market shifts is resisted by those whose ideology actually works to permanently enshrine the present.

Remote drivers from the Phillipines are then the most dangerous

Austin's crawling with Waymos. And now Tesla robotaxis are being introduced.

Next thing you'll tell me is some states issue CDL's to illegal aliens who can't speak or read English

I'd trust Teslas much more than Waymos from what I've see Waymos do and also not be able to do

I've only seen two Waymo instances personally:

1.) driving to office on 5th towards downtown. Waymo was stopped in a lane of traffic and actually straddling a lane waiting for a rider to cross a couple of lanes to enter the vehicle. Thought this was pretty dangerous for the rider and other vehicles.

2.) Waymo stalled on Lamar during rush hour causing all kinds of issues.

Who do you see driving most the taxis in NYC? That's why Mamdani is doing this.

I see Waymo's every day in Austin. They seem to be very very cautious, as they operate. But unless there has been a safety issue, we don't know about...it's just Mamdani pandering to a voter base.

The first one is definitely an issue.

The second one happens every day with human drivers. A vehicle breaking down isn't really a Waymo thing.

I haven't ridden in them, but I seem them all over, daily...and haven't really noticed any issues. They almost seem too cautious, which I guess is a good thing.

Communists are never going to embrace technology and automation. Add to that identify politics and its even worse.

Well, except for the ChiComs and that's because they want economic hegemony.

True. Just saying those are the only two Waymo-related issues I've noticed out of the large amounts of those vehicles roaming the streets.

I haven't ridden in one yet and would be curious to do so. My wife refuses to do it. My brother-in law rides them a lot and swears by them.

I had one blocking the entrance to my office's parking garage off of Caesar Chavez for 5 minutes waiting for a passenger. When I saw the passenger come out I looked at him and he just kind of shrugged and said "Im sorry". I mean it's not his fault.

Democrats screwing their voters by preferring unions over technology is a tale as old as time.
Remember when Austin refused to allow Uber because Uber didnt fingerprint drivers ?

New Yorkers will claim that this is good for NewYork. Libs always double down on their stupidity. Its tin their DNA..

That sucks.

There's definitely a lot of 'little' things like that they'll need to figure out.

I live near downtown Austin. Waymos are FAR better than 95% of Austin drivers. They sometimes do something a bit odd, but nothing like some of the lunatics that blow thru red lights and go 100 mph down MoPac. They drive defensively. I may be a bit biased because I just got back from picking up lunch and was almost in an accident with a guy who ran a red light, turning right in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes to avoid t-boning him.

Robotaxis are supposed to be rolled out in Houston sometime this year.

We're staying to see them in Houston. I saw several in Austin when I was there a while back.

Heard a story the other day, didn't catch what city... It got into the ChicFilzA delivery drive thru... Going the wrong way..

I don't mind bagging on NYC and the meet band of Communist misfits. But I don't see telling Waymo to get out as a left vs right thing.

They may be getting closer, but their NOT ready yet

They creep me out. I also saw one almost hit a homeless guy downtown who was jaywalking. It was impressive to see it slam on the the brakes in the middle of the intersection, but I don't think it could have avoided a collision if there was anything else that could have caused one at the same time.

A normal driver would have just slowly pulled through as the person finished walking, but the waymo had to slam on the brakes.

So the Waymo didn't hit the guy, but you don't like how it didn't hit the guy? Interesting.

A normal person would have been on their phone and just rolled over the guy without even noticing. Just would have told their friends about the large pothole on whatever street they drove down.

I like the tech and it seems impossible to do but progress is great, but I think there are so many things that could go wrong and kill people.

It's not just enough to say people are Luddites. Anything not in control of humans and where human lives are on the line is risky.

Mamdani's job is to watch out for NYC, not corps. So it is a balancing act for him also.

I don't know what is right at this point.

Self driving cars along with drone deliveries are the wave of the future. Getting the kinks out now.
