I wonder if something like this will wind up being needed in Cuba once we are invovled in 'fixing' it?

Nick Shirley just went (and escaped) fyi:

Axios: escalating rhetoric shows invasion could be imminent: (Paywalled). I doubt it, personally.

One of the fundamental and root cause obstacles/problem/challenges with Haiti is that the Haitian side of the island is basically wrecked ecologically. Some parts of it look like a Sonoran desert. I spent almost a year and a half in Haiti and I do not believe that there will ever be improvement and one of the reasons is that a decent level of agriculture is just not possible, there are huge water issues, and off the Haitian coasts the water and life is wrecked.

As a nearby neighbor the US has to ensure that wrecking the ecology of the island is avoided in Cuba as the pitfall makes solving a lot of other issues much more difficult. Intervention, invasion, acquisition, take over, coup, whatever it is, it needs to be done PDQ for Cuba to have a better chance of pulling itself outta this mess in the next 20-30 years. There is a lot more than politics and getting shed of commies in play to straighten Cuba out.

If you care to share, what the heck were you doing in Haiti for a year and half? I've run across a few guys that spent extended time there and also in Virgin Islands and PR doing disaster recovery work. They did not have pleasant stories to tell. In fact, a few of he discussions dealt with guys getting insanely depressed being somewhat isolated and seeing the conditions there. I also have friends who do mission work so they see it for a week in the summer but I don't think the concept of how bad things can be in these areas.

I somewhat facetiously said in one of these threads that recolonizing the Caribbean and parts of Central and South America is actually not the craziest or dumbest of ideas. They are simply incapable of operating as independent sovereigns.

Haha, no disaster relief. Sorry for the late reply, but got busy.

I was running a manufacturing facility there and was also over outsourced production in PAP. I have spent about 11 years total living and working in the two poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. I also spent just shy of 2 years in the DR, where I had quite a few Haitian employees (actually had to hire them off the books as they weren't quite legal, but that is another story).

I enjoyed working with the Haitians, the groups I worked with were decent and hardworking folks that suffered a plenty. This was back in 17'-19', the violence since the assignation has really jacked up the country and a lotta them have fled.

On a personal level I prefer living Central America, I don't need all the conveniences of the US, and much prefer the freedoms and lack of DEI and PC crap. Plus all the political nonsense of the US has gotten too much to bear. Those cultures/countries are a lot happier, maybe except Haiti as it is a big, biscuit eating beetch to live there to just have enough to eat, than what I perceive most folks in the US are.

I just hope Cuba doesn't get so jacked up that it turns into another Haiti or even close to it.

Has the $100 million been accepted? Or maybe the offer is at least being discussed.

Saw that Havana has just one or two hours electricity per day.

Wouldnt surprise me at all if Cuban government gets exited while Trump is in China. Pretty typical bait and switch move by Trump.

Canada will welcome the exiled commies with open arms. Hell, they will be heroes and will work to establish the grand visions of Che Guevara!

Nope, not accepted.

Marco made a number of comments in that interview yesterday. A threat to arrest Raul Castro now (if indicted) is only adding more pressure.

It's a safe bet the CiA wanted people to know they are in Cuba since they posted about it in their X account

I thought I heard this morning the assistance had been accepted but who knows, and may be unrelated (not directly related) to CIA.

Who knows. Trump may use the Ides of May to stir things up.

For most of us on f16 our entire lives have been spent looking 90 miles off our shores at a communist stronghold, bewildered by the sights of old Americana cars as a symbol of costs and oddities of a country allegiant to foreign powers we long considered our enemies or at best competition.

Trump is fixing them and bold news days await.
