That's where you're wrong. People do not understand the term lame duck and what it means.
A lame duck president is not one who can't get reelected because they are in their last term.
A lame duck president is defined as a president in his last term in office who does not have either houses of Congress on his side. That's why he's lame. He can't get anything done.
Trump has both the Senate and the house on his side for another few months yet, at least, and depending on the results of the midterm elections, possibly the rest of his term.
He is clearly beginning to lose political power as he goes deeper into his term. Several R's just voted in the House to overturn his tariffs on Canada and similar votes on other nation's tariffs are in the pipeline. Those R's have made a calculation that they fear their own voters in their district more than they fear Trump. And Trump can't run again, so his ability to command the party will naturally wane over the rest of his term. It's normal and happens to every two-term president.
It's very likely the Dems will take the House and possibly the Senate, so the second half of his term will be different. He'll be fighting off Dem investigations of this and that, and possibly impeachments of some of his Cabinet and maybe himself. The Dems are licking their chops for it. You can see it coming a mile away.
He needs to get everything over the finish line that he can between now and January. He can do part of that by commanding it, but there will be other elements where he needs allies to get it done. Brushing up on those soft skills would do him -- and us -- some good.
