Color me skeptical. Even if we have it in that kind of deployable form, why reveal it on the Maduro mission? Makes no sense.

The Chinese radar system in question is the JY-27A system that Beijing sold to Caracas and markets elsewhere as capable of detecting low-observable aircraft. This is a key sensor capability the Chinese military wants for use in countering F-35 and F-22 stealth jets and B-2 and future B-21 stealth bombers in any future conflict with the U.S.
However, U.S. military forces on Saturday demonstrated highly effective mission SEAD suppression of enemy air defenses in the opening minutes of the lightning-fast raid. Forces knocked out both the Chinese radar and extensive Russian air defense missile systems.
Asked about the failure of the Chinese equipment in Venezuela, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian appeared temporarily at a loss for words before declining to address the issue.
"China firmly supports Latin America and the Caribbean region's status as a Zone of Peace," Mr. Lin said Monday in Beijing in response to a Japanese reporter who asked why Chinese military equipment appeared to be "of little practical use" during the raid.
The Y-27A is a long-range air surveillance and guidance radar the Chinese claim is resistant to jamming while being highly reliable and mobile. The Very High Frequency radar uses an active phased array antenna.
Its manufacturer, the state-owned China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, has said the radar can detect stealth aircraft like the F-22 up to 310 miles away.
Details on exactly how the Venezuelan military's Chinese and Russian air defenses were rendered useless has not been made public.

The U.S. raid on the Venezuelan capital Saturday, which resulted in the capture of President Nicols Maduro and his wife, demonstrated the U.S. retains a technological edge over hardware obtained from its Chinese ally, a senior Taiwanese official said Monday.
The attack in Caracas could mark a reputational blow for Beijing, as the JY27A mobile antistealth radars sold to Venezuela, and touted as capable of detecting fifthgeneration stealth aircraft like U.S. F22s and F35s from over 150 miles away, purportedly failed to give an early warning at the critical hour.

Security Guard: On the day of the operation, we didn't hear anything coming. We were on guard, but suddenly all our radar systems shut down without any explanation. The next thing we saw were drones, a lot of drones, flying over our positions. We didn't know how to react.

Pretty bad ass!!!🚨This account from a Venezuelan security guard loyal to Nicolás Maduro is absolutely chilling—and it explains a lot about why the tone across Latin America suddenly changed.

Reads like propaganda but I don't think it should surprise anyone if we used tech we haven't seen before. You have to operationalize this stuff at some point to see if it works.
Also, remember Gulf War I? The public had zero clue how advanced we had gotten since Vietnam (or Panama or Grenada). When CNN started airing the footage, there was a collective "Holy *****" By everyone watching it. Genpop had no idea we had smart missiles and bombs that could be sent through a 3x5 window or down a chimney with that kind of precision.

That's just the video frame-rate matching the helicopter rotor speed.

Because we have things that are well beyond that weapon and very few know about. There is not a doubt in my mind that the US has weapons that most can't even fathom, and using this one in this instance is nothing more than telling China and Russia that we have really really cool toys.

Very reasonable take. Flip side - Americans would not tolerate any American casualties in an op like this. It has to be perfect and it pretty much was. High risk high reward. Use the tech.
Fair. I can fully see Trump saying, "Let's take it for drive and kick the tires." But I can also see intel and Joint Chiefs pushing back on what is the point of having a secret weapon when it i no longer secret because it was deployed?
