I think an American reboot is underway. Some people got too greedy and everything is collapsing. What emerges will be a new system.

Long overdue, IMO.

I hope someone comes up with a model where they don't expect their customers to pay salaries of workers. It's ridiculous and feels like being cheated. Some waiters and owners are also arrogant with their
Quote:

you no pay beeeg teeep, you no eeeeeat heeeeer!

I am okay with them adding a certain percentage of service fee if they want to. Or add it to the price of the food. Whatever. Keep it up upfront and honest. Don't let customers guess whether 20% is okay, should it be 30% now? And there is always someone who wants to show off and say he tips a minimum 35% "because the waiters rely on tips" trying to impress the ladies, but in reality the dude is a lolpoor.

There are times when I decide to take out just because I don't want to pay 20% in an underwhelming and unappetizing dining area.

The good news is that Powell is expected to lower rates again today!

Yay more Inflation!!!!!

Trump and many on the right have been calling for more lowering of rates. Why would Trump and others call for something that would increase inflation when they've been saying it (inflation) needs to be taken care off?

Bc the market will go up

So people want the market to go up even if it'll hurt the average (meaning most) American because of inflation? Yeah, that makes sense. [Obvious sarcasm is obvious]

Companies ripping their customers off. They won't last, good.

How exactly are companies "ripping their customers off". If it was just 1 or 2 companies maybe you could say that. But when it is everyone across the board? Sounds more like misplaced blame to me. Granted, larger companies have more overhead, but ultimately they don't control inflation or the overall increase in cost of goods due to tariffs. If their costs go up, your costs go up. People always like to blame the middleman, but ultimately you need to be blaming those higher up the food chain.

Just because someone's business model got cratered by bad political and economic decisions does not mean they are "ripping you off". They are just in limbo - either they will fail, or they will adapt and overcome.

Well, they don't seem to be doing anything illegal, but it is bad business if they try to take advantage of their customers. But then everything works on demand and supply. If they jack up the prices and I feel cheated, then I just don't go. Or I reduce my visits. I like 5 Guys Burgers but I don't feel like spending $25 for 1 person for a take out burger and fries. So I rarely go or I go when there is a BOGO deal.

I meant "ripping off" in a customer psychology sense, not a legal sense.

If many people feel this way, their revenues fall and they go out of business. That is happening.

Someone asked a question and I answered it. Trump treats the market like his personal scoreboard. If you're smart, you jump in so you can go along for the ride.

Yes.

Because of our spending and growing debt you have two choices: (1) cut spending (mostly entitlements) or, (2) run a deficit (mostly entitlements) and use inflation to minimize the damage and delay the collapse.

Most voters are stupid and choose option 2 because they don't understand it or have a short term gain mindset.

While the smart are investing in the market, property, and metals as a hedge against inflation while the LoL poors are unknowingly getting raked over the coals.

Option 1 is the obvious answer and visible to everyone.

This.

Sadly most Americans don't realize the world of hurt coming their way. A lot will change in the next 20 years.

I believe that business and community have to work together in sync for a common good. Now some people may jump up and shout "socialism! communism!", but that is the only way for things work to work long term. Corporations have to feel invested in their communities, not just "maximizing shareholder value". And communities and governments have to appreciate what corporations and businesses do to keep the community vibrant. Both need each other. One cannot do without the other. In the US, this relationship is broken. A bad relationship is when US cos outsource everything starving the local community. It is likely the US Govt may apply tariffs/taxes on corps to handle this, which is a sign of a bad relationship.

I am very uncomfortable about our national debt of 38.5T. No one seems to care.

Our money is breaking

Nothing will work right until valuable payment is given for valuable effort

Both sides of that equation will continue to deteriorate until a [depression] [great recession] [massive inflationary run-up] [hyperinflation] occurrs

I feel you, and appreciate where you're coming from.

I'm lucky in that i never struggle, and to those that can work for themselves more power to them. I'm just thinking about those that can't, for whatever reason since the world won't accommodate every person being a boss.

Anyway, as always, appreciate your thoughts.

I get that. To those that can, because there's even more that can't, and they vote just as much as those of us that can. And the midterms are just around the corner.

The general idea is to have multiple income streams. I myself realized that simple concept relatively later in life. Something that is NOT dependent on the whim of a single person (as much as possible).

There are many ways to do it. Start a side business with multiple customers. Tom Fox does this. Or invest in the market, which is an easier thing to do. You cannot stop a CEO from making money but you can definitely make some money when he makes a lot of money.

So you don't really need to be a boss to survive into the next 2 decades. Yes, it is a matter of survival as we get older and things get harder. The worst thing is to have a job and get comfortable thinking it will last. Many of my friends are doing this and I tell them to invest and they listen to me politely but don't do anything about it. Sad.

Spain expat here. I'm headed back to the States in February for a wedding. I've gotten use to much less expensive meals for higher quality food here in Valencia (which a lot of Spaniards cannot afford). We FINALLY found a great (Argentine) steakhouse in town, and the best steak (with plenty of sides and dessert) costs about 50 Euros per person. Plus, no tip. I'm not looking forward to paying US restaurant prices (plus tips) for the three weeks I'm there.
