Not happy about the property tax one that takes money away from the schools. Can't they cut something else? Why is it always the schools?

I'm happy to have a property tax break, but they need to cut other stuff.

It doesn't take a dime from the schools. The state makes up the difference so the schools can still waste the money as they see fit.

Are you able to back this up?

Maybe they will perform better, we have data showing GIVING More money makes no difference.

The Democratic party is dead. The socialists and communists used Alinsky's rules to kill it and wear its carcass proudly.

This is a cope, considering they just won big.

What? Who is in charge? Pelosi is getting out. Schumer is going to lose to AOC. Jeffries is going to lose when he eventually get primaried - unless he turns hard socialist. The energy is with the socialists. Not traditional democrats. They are getting consumed.

Which is what TAMU1990 is likely really saying. He is not saying at all that they are destined for defeat. Just that the party by that name is gone. Dead in that sense. Sort of like the idea of non-proliferation. Or multiculturalism.

I do think he is right here. Especially in VA. Where I am betting the messaging getting out to all the Democrat voters was that you're all out of work or have gotten fired because of dirty low down Trump and the Republicans.

I don't think people, and this board in particular, are paying attention to what happened in the House of Delegates in Virginia. The Democrats as of yesterday had a 51-48 edge in the House, with one vacancy. As of this morning, they have a 64-36 edge, a gain of 13 seats. It would be the biggest margin the Democrats have held in the House since 1987, when they had 65.

NY and NJ are easy to explain; Republicans were never winning there. Best you could hope there was for an outperform. But ignore what happened in the Virginia House of Delegates at your own peril.

Virginia is a state heavily impacted by federal workers and shutdowns. It's unique in that way and difficult to extrapolite those results across 50 states.

In 2021 the state went heavily republican and voted a GOP governor. Less than a year later the 2022 midterms Va was blue again.

Correct. And it may have been you that even pointed out, and that was probably a special outlier -- backlash against the gender bender agenda in schools and the Covid lockdowns. Not representative of a state trend away from blue.

Disagree to an extent. A clean CR should be off the table now - don't reward Dems for their actions.
HTownAg98

And for all that, the Republicans picked up 7 seats for a 52-48 edge in 2021.
I know the shutdown had some to do with this, as there are four districts in northern VA that flipped. But there has to be more going on here than people pissed off about the shutdown.

The commie Somali pirate lost his bid to be mayor of Minneapolis.

Not that the winner is good by any means, but the pirate is far worse.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

The funny part will be when new Jersey barely elects the dem, the story will be somehow that's a rebuke of trump whereas any election in the last 10 years that was close the opposite way- blue nearly got it in a red state, was about rising discontention with trunp/republicans/white people.

No matter the outcome, it will be spun anti trump or anti republican

If it was Texas or Oklahoma or Florida, then sure. But Virginia, jersey and NYC? Nah

As far as I remember Virginia has always been a blue/purple state. With the shutdown, I bet a ton of service members voted dem in spite of Hegseth, Trump and company.

You are, of course, correct that Virginia is purple - though trending blue as of late - primarily due to the growing numbers of more progressive voters in the DC suburbs.

However, realize that military (active duty and veterans) may be voting Dem now NOT "in spite of Hegseth, Trump and company" but BECAUSE of intense dislike and unhappiness with Hegseth, Trump and company.

I would venture to say that the majority of the military (all ranks - not just senior leadership) does NOT view Hegseth, in particular, with much favorability.

My own experience over the last 45 years in and around the military in various capacities - with continued close connections to all sorts of service members - from brand new recruits to GO's.

Obviously that is all based on my own anecdotal information and not a scientific survey or poll of any type. But I am fairly confident in my assessment.

One can certainly criticize the military - it's members and past and current leadership - based on one's own beliefs and opinions - and thankfully we live in a country where that is allowed. But I do think it is illustrative that almost all of those most senior retired military and civilian military leaders who served in Trump's first administration that have gone on the record have not thought highly of him (perhaps an understatement).

Those knuckleheads who felt the need to "speak out" had an axe to grind. Most vets are happy enough to go away and trust that the machine continues to run. 99 times out of 100, I see a disgruntled vet, I can figure out real quick why they have to sound off. They were shiz, their performance was shiz, they got called out for their shiz, were separated or left for their shiz, now they want 'America' to feel sorry for their shiz.
You're facilitating their shiz.

Yikes, in Georgia, we lost two incumbent republican Publc Service Commissioners by 65 - 35 margins. That is unheard of in a crap race like that with nothing else on the ballot.

The midterms are going to be horrible.
