Why do they even need our help. Have you been there? I have. They have a great piece of property and can provide for themselves.

Better than wasting it in Ukraine I guess.

40 billion is a drop in the bucket that is our budget who cares…

I care. Considering only about 30% of us paying any real taxes. That's maybe 60 million adults.

That's $666 per person. It's evil.

Entitlement spending is 4.1 trillion continue in your fake outrage

I don't know why you think it's fake outrage. I think the entitlement spending is bull**** too.

People on here have the most dumb ass responses. Because I have an issue with discretionary spending you think I'm OK with non-discretionary? What part of your ****ing brain came up with that?

I'm saying Trump is strategically helping an ally in the region where we possibly come out ahead or even no worse , and your tds riddled brain just spouts orange man bad, this is non issue but cause it's Trump this board losses it's pea brain

I love Trump. I don't have TDS at all. He is the greatest president this country has ever had.

Again, more assumptions and weirdness from you. I'm certainly not anti-helping Argentina either. In fact, I think it's one of the better places our money could go, but I do certainly care where every penny that we spend goes.

I just had to file taxes a couple days ago.

You might need to take a break dude. Go watch some football and stuff today.

You understand better after watching the video? And how this is not a "gift" otherwise giving money to Argentina?

All Bessent did, from a fund that exists for this purpose, was a currency swap with the Argentine bank so they could hold dollars in reserve.

It also helps Melei in the elections which is in the best interest of America. And since it's Trump, he's asking banks and others to match our efforts.

He is indeed a savant at foreign relations. Congratulate him on making your life better and a place you like to visit better.

YOU, at least tried to answer the original question. Whats in it for us? While I still believe that it is a gift, I appreciate you for trying to give an answer

MILEI FULLY REPAYS CURRENCY SWAP TO THE U.S.

In a major economic achievement for President Milei, Argentina has fully and rapidly repaid the US$ 2.5 billion drawdown from a US$ 20 billion currency swap facility with the United States Treasury.

Announced by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the repayment completed in December 2025 clears all outstanding pesos from the Exchange Stabilization Fund (ESF).

The swap, established in October 2025, provided urgent liquidity to stabilize Argentina's exchange rate and financial markets right before Argentina's midterm electionswhich Milei later won by a landslide.

Bessent praised Milei's "visionary leadership" and Economy Minister Luis Caputo's efforts, noting the country's strengthened financial position, renewed market access, and positive momentum in monetary and fiscal reforms.

Bessent underscored U.S. support for a stable Argentina as a key ally in the Western Hemisphere, while the international community, including the IMF, backs President Milei's prudent strategy.

The quick repayment highlights the success of President Milei's pro-market and libertarian agenda by turning crisis into confidence.

The entire budget of usaid was 30.47 bn.

Trump gave 40 to one country.

Defend his lunacy some more please... you haven't quite convinced me yet that Yrump is anything more than a thief

Nobody needs to defend lunacy when the real issue is ignorance. Go back up the page, because it was posted, what the $40bn was used for.

Let's interject some facts missing from the OP. This is not "aid" or in any way "giving" Argentina $20 billion. The initial $20 billion is a a credit swap facility designed to stabilize the Argentine peso.

The additional $20 billion would be provided by private banks and sovereign funds (not US, but I need to confirm). And it's likely contingent on there continuing to be a stable, capitalist democracy being in control of the Argentinian government. That's a good thing.

But if one just googles, you get a variety of Newsweek, The Hill and… wait for it… PBS articles saying Trump wants to double US assistance to Argentina to $40 billion with no mention of the details. Just "Orange Man wants to Give Argentine Man $40 billion to be best friend".

So, it costs us nothing? Is that your understanding?

Try Google....we made $4b
“It was miraculous. It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice. Anybody could do it; it required no brains at all. It merely required no character.”

why would we give them 40 billion? What is in it for us?

$40bn now is an investment in the future - so we won't have to send special ops to Buenos Aires to snatch a communist despot.
