24/7 Drones should be over every major population area

I have to believe we already have something like this going on. But, you could have multiple high resolution, high altitude drones orbiting over areas taking video 24/7. Save the footage on the cloud. Then when something like the Charlie Kirk assassination takes place, they can go back and trace where the shooter came from and where they went after.

The EYE in the SKY.

Low cost, but highly useful for multiple things...

HELL NO. Freedom loving Americans should oppose something like this at every turn.

Let's not turn into a surveillance state due to bad apples.

Let's remove the bad apples from the good.

I do think drones at high attendance events would be an effective and appropriate means of security. At the event and surrounding areas only.

OP, your line of thought, and how you think this would be acceptable, is alarming.

F16 at 4:30 PM- The left is America's #1 enemy.

F16 at 10:30 PM- Let's give them the ability to track our every move. What could go wrong?

You don't need drones. There are satellites and technology that already do this. Its been available for years.

You really don't think this already is in place?

1-Just about every home, store, traffic lights, toll roads and freeways have video surveillance. Also, Ring doorbell and Arlo say "Hi". Whatever "privacy" you think you have right now. You don't.

2-The authorities access these videos when working to solve crimes.

3-Satellites are already over your homes doing this very thing.

4-Drone footage would possibly make this more readily available. But, as I mentioned. I think it already is happening.

You can't drive down or walk down a street without being captured on video. You realize this, right?

We are already down this path. Might as well use drone technology to help solve crimes. Especially assassinations and murders.

Correct. That's nuts.

Go back to draconian punishment for violent crime before going that route. It definitely worked and there was little recidivism.

I can think of nothing Charlie Kirk would want less to come from his murder than for the country to turn into a surveillance state

It won't stop a lot of these shootings. Generally, it's simply someone crazy who wants to take out the guy, and doesn't care what happens next. The Trump shooter is a good example of this.

Of course this is one of the rare situations where the guy isn't identified and arrested immediately. (Probably means it was an actual pro hit). So yes I'll admit the drones might help with this situation, but it wouldn't help with most of them.

Also agree with everyone saying hell no. Don't want the government watching us that much. (Of course they probably already do but still.)

We used this idea in Afghanistan and Iraq to follow where suicide bombers, IED's, and other HVT's were moving when we would get a SIGINT hit. You could use a balloon or they had aerial assets. Worked pretty well. I think it's a horrible idea to have in the US. The gov would abuse this within the first minute.

I don't know whose drone it was but I can tell you that I saw a drone parked over the Pavilions grocery store in The Burbank Rancho multiple times during 2020-2023.

It was probably 400 feet up and I just happened to see it when sunlight reflected off of it.

No idea who it belonged to or what it was doing. But the fact that it was stationary and appeared in the same place multiple times led me to assume it was a government operator. Probably Burbank PD.

Drones? Who needs drones? Bonus : no warrants needed!!!

ALPR (auto license plate readers). for many cities, every police car has one or more ALPR, fixed cameras all over the place (bridges, overpasses, traffic lights..., all data tied together, each camera capable of scanning thousands of cars per hour. In many major metros, your car is being scanned several times to much greater than 10 times each say commute.

And these companies also id people/cars from things like small scratches etc on cars and bikes if the license plate is obscured,.

There are about 10 of these companies, they can share data: hell my 50-house HOA had one for several years.

And every year, there are many billions of scans added to their databases.

I'm not a fan of deploying troops to our cities to fix the crime problems democrat leaders of those cities have created. But it's an undeniable truth that what's been done in DC has worked. This doesn't mean we need troops in our cities, instead it's shown that we need to take policing seriously and that if we dedicate sufficient resources to public safety we can in fact dramatically reduce violent crime.

Frankly I see this as a political stunt by Trump to prove once again that Democrats are awful leaders of their communities. Trump unequivocally won with this issue. We now have the left defending violent crime problems because it's a local issue and not a federal one. Heck you just did it by calling a potential solution silly. What Trump did was tell our cities he's willing to help them with their crime problems and he showed them a way forward. Then he sat back and watched the Democrats do what they do best which is knee jerk react to everything he does by supporting the opposite. It's effectively proved the joke that if he embraced oxygen we'd see leftists suffocate themselves.

So good job toeing the party line.
